Talking My Alice in Chains Guitar Cover Triumvirate

Yes I've posted a couple in these in the share recordings thread, but as the leader here I'm taking liberties, and making a whole thread for them.

So I just finished "Rooster" which is why I made a thread. The backing track is actually really good on this one except for the guy singing "Rooser" instead of "Rooster." Obviously English is not his first language. But his voice is good.

I tried to use different guitars on all of these, so while it seems a little sacrilegious to play Van Halen axes on Alice in Chains songs, well I like playing them and did it anyway. None of these are very hard of course, but they are fun to play. I recorded them on a combination of my Yamaha THR10x and using GarageBand amp plugins.

So here's all three that I did.

    ROOSTER

    WOULD?

Bro? Excellent. So, how is that THR 10? Would ya recommend one because I seriously have been wanting one for awhile now. Are they everything that everyone says they are?

    Great covers, Burtt!

Thanks man. Yes I really like that little amp although I didn't use it a lot on this song. But for a modeling amp it can get very brown and does a great job on VH. I'm very happy with it and definitely recommend it. But remember they're all different, the 10x is the only one that has the brown channels.

Most of my guitars are on the wall to the left of me so you can't see them in the videos unfortunately.

You ever use your 5150 anymore Brett? I'd like to hear those songs through that. Not that the other stuff is bad but I'm a tube amp guy.

    And your playing is excellent.

No not in house. My rig and pedal board lives in the garage, and I use it for my band only. Too big of a pain to drag it in and out of the house every week, and a half stack is just too loud for my home office.

    Appreciate it fudd.

Outstanding covers Brett! I've always LOVED that f'n band! VERY clean playing dude--well done! You into their newer stuff by chance? I went into it with a shitty attitude expecting not to like it, but I ended up loving it! Breath On A Window is killer! Don't get me wrong, the new stuff's great, but still a far cry from the Layne days!

Anyway, I greatly enjoyed your covers man!

    Thanks man appreciate it!

I bought their first album with the new guy. I liked it ok but it just doesn't compare to the early stuff for me. I've heard a few songs off the last release but never bought it. I'll have to revisit it again. Layne's voice is just amazing to me, so difficult to replace.

I couldn't agree more man!! Layne's voice is like no other! Been a huge fan of them since their first album, and was crushed when I read the news about Layne! I think their first few albums are mind blowing! Thought it went downhill a bit starting with the self-titled album, though. Always respected Jerry as a great and original guitarist. No, it's not terribly difficult, but the guy plays from the heart. You should throw up a cover of It Ain't Like That or Bleed the Freak!

...hearing those, Brett, you will NOT be disappointed with the Cantrell Wah at all, when you get a chance to test drive it. That damn pedal just has "it".

I absolutely LOVE "Sea of Sorrow", my band already does "Would?" (among at least a half dozen others), but our newest constant jam is "Don't Follow".

Regardless, KILLER job on those...and that damn THR10x IS on my short list of "gotta get next" gear.

Brett, the guitar you use in rooster for the lead, that a home built? Whatever it is, it's freaking beautiful. Is it blue, blue grey, what? Whatever, great looking guitar. Got pics of it?

It's a Warmoth body, KNE neck. Yes I built it about 7 years ago. I'm actually looking to sell it but haven't gotten any offers that excited me. It's blue just looks really dark in my office. Here's some pics of it.

The first two albums are masterpieces. I never tire of them. I know those two songs really well, my band has done them. I'd have to find some good backing tracks of them if they even exist but I would totally do them. I may do Man In The Box but without a talk box I'm not sure how good it will sound. It's not as cool with the wah.

Speaking totally from experience, I can relate! Man in the Box was always a staple in my bands because it (and AIC) were huge at the time. I've never played through a talk box (weird, as I'm a huge Sambora fan!) and either used a wah or simply played it 'straight' with no effect...

Not quite the same, yet I got the job done.
Which talk box would you be using, if you ever went that route?

I have no plans to get one I just know it doesn't sound as good on a wah as that's the way I've always done it. I've seen Jerry Cantrell do it live that way a lot too.

    Sounding good, boss man!

And I can't believe you haven't gotten a reasonable offer on that Warmoth/KNE guitar. That thing is beautiful.
