Question Axe FX as multifx only - advices needed

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of shrinking my rack a little bit.
I would like to remove mainly my old (although still perfectly serving) intellipitch, d-two and midiverb. If possible I'd love to retire my phantom cab and hush too (see pic below).
In order to replace them I was planning to buy an axe fx.
The preamp section would still be my Mesa triaxis, with the stompboxes controlled by the Bradshaw-designed patchmate. I want to keep H9 in the post section, and I'm more than happy with the rack wah, while the rack interface is an indispensable tool.
Anyone of you guys have experience with fractal audio products?
    Any comment?
    Any suggestion?

Here's a pic of my rack just for reference.

    Quite an impressive rack system!!!

I'm not personally familiar with the Axe FX gear, although I've seen praises for it in the guitar magazines, and also know player friends who swear by them.
Also know that there is a newer floor pedal unit (FX-8?) that is strictly effects only, without the amp/cab simulations. You could use the footswitches to control your rack via midi.

I own a Ax Fx II XL and use it for amps, cabs and effects straight out of my PreSonus Monitors.

I would think if you'll just be using it for effects you can purchase the Fractal FX-8 multi effects processor and save some $. It's a pedal board with all the Axe Fx effects minus the amps and cabs.

Actually I'd like to avoid peda boards.
The purpose of my rack is to keep the signal path away from stage, and directly into PA.
I usually bring only two cables to stage: one for midi controller and one for wah.
For smaller stages I already own a multieffects pedalboard (POD 500HDx) that makes me happy.
I'd love to find a suitable high end rack device for effects.
I took into consideration eventide eclipse, but it would be limiting for certain duties (for example speaker cab sim would still be needed in my rig).

I have had both the original axefx ultra and now the xl plus. the latest version is stellar in all aspects and it seems to just get better and better with every update (which is usually every 1-2 months). I also have 4 high end amps which I use every now and then just to get some current going through them. if you do decide to get one just for the effects which are awesome by themselves, you will most likely end up using the amp and cab sims. keep in mind if you do, that it sound a whole lot better through full range speakers than it does through a conventional amp and cabinet.
