I can’t competently answer the question and I am obviously biased toward VH. But I was 5 years old when the VH debut was released so I wasn’t “aware”. My big experience was Appetite. I was in high school and found that people who didn’t even like rock were getting into that album. Although I wouldn’t even consider myself a GNR fan, Welcome to the Jungle and Appetite in general was the biggest debut in my formative music years.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    1. VH1. It's just the record that changed everything.
    2. Gotta go Zep. IV is classic, as is all their output, but I thought the production was lacking. Houses is a more fully realized record that has a similar sense of brevity. Ocean, Rain Song... Every bit as good as BD and Stairway...
    3. BIB. In spite of losing and arguable rawness, it's an amazing record as well as an amazing sounding record. No way I can argue otherwise.
    4. Been a long time since I've listened to Toys. Title track, Sweet Emotion, R&R, Uncle Salty...what am I forgetting? A good record and emblematic of the times, but I know and love Rocks better.
    5. Meh, Guns. I can accept them as the last real/great rnr band, but this album never really did it for me. A good record, but nothing Aerosmith hadn't already done better.

Not even believin a Twisted Sister record came up here, but different yuks for different fucks.

Exactly this. Twisted Sister? Wow. And if you picked NOTB for Maiden (not a debut of course...well Bruce's debut) then we've got a game changer, I'd have it right below VH. And Skid row iconic? A good album maybe. But iconic?

I wasn't going to say anything but this is such a dickish response and a waste of everyone's time that it just has to be called out.

You could make a great case for Led Zeppelin.

In the right thread. Not one asking to rank a select number of albums that said poster arbitrarily decides to derail (which he's done time and again).

I didn't see anyone messing with Coulda Hada's thread, suggesting Boston, Sabbath or Nirvana in place of the one's he had listed.

Dude relax wow. Twisted Sister and Skid Row are odd choices. Don't get so angry.

The only two that I find iconic are Van Halen and Appetite for Destruction, and I would rank them in that order. Of the remaining four, I'd rank Blizzard of Oz ahead of Skid Row. I have no use for the other two, Iron Maiden or Under the Blade. In fact, I had to look up Under the Blade to see who it was.
