Default Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's Cryin' ...

"Jamie's Cryin'" was the third single released from Van Halen's legendary debut album. It is one of the better known songs from "Van Halen", along with "Runnin' With The Devil", "You Really Got Me" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".

David Lee Roth has described "JC" as "hard rock cha cha" and "heavy metal samba". Alex Van Halen has cited it as one of his least favorite Van Halen songs. This tune was immortalized by Tone Loc when he sampled it for his song "Wild Thing" back in 1989.

What are your thoughts on this song, which was written in the studio during the recording of "Van Halen"? Personally, I dig it. Great riff, stellar groove, cool lyrics and awesome background vocals. What's not to like?

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

A song from the CVH era that takes some flak sometimes. I absolutely love this song. In Greg's book, he talks about how Dave brought the Top 40/Pop Sensibilities to the virtuosity of Eddie and Alex. This song to me is the perfect blend of those elements. Plus, how can you not love the mocking riff Eddie plays after the chorus line? What other song has done that so tastefully without making it an outright joke.

Plus that rhythm is one of their all-time bests.

If Aliens came down to earth and asked me to explain Van Halen, I would pick this one in my Top 5.

I thought it was cool how Dave talked about Jamie's Cryin during the 2015 tour. The band then broke into a small snippet of the song during Dance the Night Away.

I have always loved Al's drum opening and Eddie's riff with this one. Jamie's Cryin is also sampled during one of the few rap songs I like (Tone Loc's Wild Thing).

I love this song. I have to laugh at Roth calling it a rock and roll cha cha, but it sums it up...and that's what is great about it, unlike some of the other SoCal rock bands of the day, VH used all the crayons in the box.

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, "Jamie's Cryin."

The drum intro kills. The guitar slays me. The guitar tone slays me. The rhythm! Absolutely perfect vocals and lyrics. And the background vocals are fucking glorious.

    Van Halen at their best.

This was one of the very first Van Halen songs I never heard, way back in eighth grade. My friend Jason (the class clown, who was always getting in trouble) started blaring on of his boom box, inside the school. After just a few seconds of hearing it echo through the hallway, I was hooked for life.

"Runnin' with the Devil" was the other song he played. There was no other music like that. It had everything. It was perfect.

It really is hard to imagine another "hard rock" band pulling off a song like "Jamie's Cryin'."

I remember being in an assembly in my freshman year of high school and the cheerleaders were doing a dance routine to "Jamie's Cryin'." Good times. Damn good times ...

If I hear it on the radio or TV, I'll turn it up. It's a song I never skip. However it's probably the song I like least on that first album. Still a great song, but not quite as great as everything else.

It's not one of my favorites on the debut, but that is simply a testament to just how incredible the debut is. The awesome and memorable drum intro is just vintage Al. No drummer has come up with so many classic intros that are immediately identifiable to that player. I love Ed's tone on the verse riff, Dave's lyrics and melody are catchy, and vocals are classic VH harmonies.

It was great to see the band jump in on it on Dave's cue during his DTNA rap late in the tour.
