Sweet! I was thinking about getting one of these a while back since I'm on a tight budget for guitars, but I wasn't sure if it would really be an upgrade to what I already had at its price point. How does it sound to you?

    Looks good for sure!
I've eyed those before as well. Thought about picking one up as a "beater" guitar, or one to use for alternate tunings.

Pretty stoked about the Sterling SUB AX4 line, especially with the trem and locking nut.

Dude, get it. It sounds/feels very good, especially considering the price. The only minor complaint I have is the trem system isn't perfect, but I plan on replacing it anyway haha. If you plan to use the tremolo a lot, find the AX4 with the licensed Floyd Rose.

I traded in an older Epiphone Les Paul for this and don't regret it one bit. I wasn't a huge fan of the Trans-black at first, but it grew on my quickly.
On a bit of a side note, if you or anyone else is ever in the Memphis area, check out rEvolve (yes that's the proper capitalization) Guitars in Bartlett. It's a nice little local owned store with pretty good selection. It's one of three that I prefer over the local guitar center haha.

    Default Here's a better review.

This guitar is built very well. It doesn't feel like a $250 dollar guitar at all, except in a couple of areas.

The frets dont feel sharp, except for the first fret on the treble side, but that seems to have gone away this morning. They're a different size for me though; most of my guitars have medium jumbos (I think), and these are a bit skinnier.

The fretboard actually has some really nice subtle flame to it, and there's a tiny birds eye by the third fret.

The pickups are absolutely FANTASTIC. I guess they're based off the original Axis/EVH p'ups, but regardless, they sound almost too good. The volume pot has a nice taper, but I'll probably replace it with something that moves a little quicker (any non-EVH brand suggestions?).

The tuners are pretty good for what they are. They'll be replaced with Schallers eventually.

The nut is pretty cheap looking, too, but there aren't any pings or any issues with it yet.

The bridge is pretty much the only downside to this guitar. It can't handle heavy use that well, though that's to be expected at this price. I've been spoiled by the American Standard Strat's bridge and the Floyd Rose I suppose haha. I'll eventually replace it with this: http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_...olo.html#specs

Long story short, I really like this guitar, and I very strongly recommend it to anyone.

The current EVH pots are just re-branded Bourns pots. You can buy them here at a fraction of the cost: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...b92YU3AQ%3D%3D

Glad you're happy with the AX3, Brody.
I've said many times before, that I loved my AX40 guitars. I got rid of them and regret it big time!!!

Looking at selling of my Wolfgangs (2 of them) and getting back into the Sterling game. I'm thinking the Sub AX4 series is a good bet for me, with the Floyd (which I'll upgrade) and the 5 way selector switch & tone knob.

Alright, I finally got to rehearse with this guitar this afternoon. It's still playing/sounding great. It's also a bit lighter than my Strat, so that made it a lot easier on the shoulders after two hours.
I'm glad I can finally use humbuckers again (still waiting on parts for the Kramer.)

Glad you're digging the Sterling, Brody. Any chance of putting up a video clip of you & yours in action? We'd love to see/hear it, man
I've been looking on eBay, at the SUB AX4 guitars...
Pretty tempting!!! I'm thinking I want the trans red model first.

    Right on!
I might even try to put one together myself. It's been a while...
