One would think Satriani trumps Smith.
For now, it isn't just about the music for Sam. It's about his interests versus whether it is worth it to him to do it. That's why when Chickenfoot halted he didn't go out and see what Yngwie Malmsteen was up to. Not specifically him, but "insert famous gunslinger here." Doing that is going to put him at a financial loss. Maybe cool for an album or so (we got two with CF), but that's about it. Sam's audience is what it is and it isn't going to expand or contract on the basis of who is playing guitar in the band anymore.

So, he filled the position with the guy in his glorified house band. No one in this Circle thing is commanding top dollar. He gets to play live with Mike (who hasn't need a top dollar paycheck and does it for fun) and that's good enough for him. I find it completely uninspiring. But I understand the thought process.

I think doing one song is better than nothing. CF demands about as much creativity as Sam can squeeze out at this stage in his career. The only thing that would make this into something more is if this 'single' gets some real buzz. I don't mean it becoming a 'hit', just becoming a buzzworthy rock song for 2016. They should also definitely do a video.

Sam's a great singer that finds writing songs a chore.

Hire someone to co-write with you.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

The first CF CD sold very well for a couple of reasons - but the biggest was it was a great CD. To this day it holds up. It was meant to be a good old fashioned, top down, summer time fun CD - and it nailed it. It's easy to say as a consumer - just do another CD like that; but reality is this type of lightening in a bottle can't happen each release.
    I like III better.

I like both Chickenfoot albums, they sit nicely next to Hagar's Van Halen & Montrose releases.

I'd welcome another Chickenfoot album over any solo release. I'd definitely prefer new Chickenfoot over The Circle too.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I'd be more interested in The Circle if they had a different guitar player. Vic seems like a great guy, but I'd rather listen to Sam play lead over Vic.

With some great two part harmonies, it would be nice to hear Sam and Mike sit down and just pop out an acoustic album. Never will happen, but a man can dream.

Satriani has the music for a 3rd CF record. It's a waste not to do it.

I hear you about Vic Johnson. I have The Circle DVD, and Vic butchers the VH tunes, especially "Poundcake".
Anyone who thinks he's great on those tunes, have to have hearing problems. He can do with a better guitarist, like Schon, Satch, etc. Screw the non availability excuse.

The new CF song is better than nothing, but they gotta release it on single at least. I'm old school. I'm tired of the ITunes crap.

Fuck the single format. We need LP, long format albums. Because if not, what is gonna happen to "album tracks"?? Do you think they would've ever released tracks like "Spanish Fly," "Inside," "Tora Tora" as single??!?! Without the album format, those tracks simply WOULDN'T EXIST in the first place!!!

I don't believe Chickenfoot is thinking "singles" in the way you describe, they are thinking "eh, I don't want to work that hard to make a whole album, let's just do one song and see how that goes."
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

That's really Sammy's thinking, not Satch. Mike also is ready to roll.
