    Default A Little Ain't Enough

Twenty five years ago DLR's A Little Ain't Enough was released.

DLR's last platinum album of his career. Pretty good album.

A Little Ain't Enough. Good song and lead off single. Not great, but good.
Shoot It - ok. I found the chorus a little annoying.
Lady Luck. Another good but not great tune.
Hammerhead Shark. I think you have to be a fan of DLR in particular to like this song. I really like this song, as stupid as it is. Guilty pleasure.
Tell the Truth. I really like this tune. DLR kills it, and by this point in his career, this type of song played to his strengths.
Baby's On Fire. Eh. Never liked this tune, paint by numbers hair metal.
    40 Below. See Hammerhead Shark.
Sensible Shoes. See Tell the Truth.
Last Call. See Baby's On Fire.
The Dogtown Shuffle. Bleh. Never liked it.
It's Showtime. Good tune. It's a blistering song, not my favorite ever, but a good listen.
Drop in the Bucket. Best song on the album to me. This song just rocks.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I love this album for the most part!
There's a couple of tunes I'll skip, but the record as a whole, stands out for me. Great big production and superb guitar tones.

My favorites are the title track, Lady Luck, Tell the Truth, It's Showtime, and Last Call.

It's a good disc. Not great, but if it was released even a year earlier, it would have been a bigger hit.

Probably my 2nd favorite DLR solo album, after EEAS.

Pretty good review DD. I've come to appreciate this one more in last few years. A few cool tunes like you said (to tell the truth and sensible shoes are strong plus Lady Luck) a couple rockers (agree Shoot It is cool but chorus can be annoying) and a few blah songs...

    Still enjoy most of it.

If I remember correctly, the US Tour didn't do that well, but it did good business in Europe.

There are a few boots from that tour from the European leg, one from Paris and one from Stockholm that I know of, and they are good shows, a good mix of Van Halen and solo material.

I loved DLR's vocal and lyrics on this album. Bob Rock's production was a return to Dave's strengths -- a 180 from Skyscraper's glossy 80s production. It has aged very well, n some ways better than EEAS.

Jason Becker once commented that Dave was into a Rolling Stones vibe at the time and you can definitely tell. If grunge wasn't blowing in from Seattle, this would have been bigger. Tell the Truth has a vibe that is very "Push Comes to Shove."

I like the cd at the time. Listened to VH FUCK a lot more.

My favorites were the 2 Jason Becker tunes, It's Showtime and Drop in the Bucket.

Quite a bit of Brett Tuggle influence on the rest of the tracks as well.

I forgot that Craig Goldy (Dio guitarist) wrote Lady Luck. I wonder if he was considered at one time for the album project?

I listened to it yesterday in my office. There are some good tunes on this disc.

Nothing earth shattering, but it's not a bad offering. Would have been interesting to see how Becker and DLR's songwriting developed.

I thought the best tunes were the ones that Becker wrote. ALS took a special person away from us. Jason wasn't just a normal shredder. He had a lot of feel and, boy, was he ever aggressive. Yet, he could pull it back and write the most melodic and touching music. He was the entire package.

Hell of a guy to boot.

Even sans ALS, don't think Becker would have done a second album. Becker would have had enough of a springboard to head out on his own like Vai did. Dave wasn't like Ozzy who still was writing heavy tunes that would always appeal to those listeners. Becker would have had little interest in being the guitar player in a band led by Dave as he started morphing into full Paul Anka mode.

I actually think that if Becker had been healthy he would have left Roth by 1994 anyways. With DLR's Filthy Little Mouth "eclectic type" direction, I think Becker would have gone the route of Vai or Satch and just done the SOLO guitar gunslinger thing.
