Default Boss ps6 vs Eventide Pitchfactor

Anyone know if you can accomplish two of the sounds from this video demo of the Eventide Pitch factor with a Boss PS6?

at the 2:50 minute mark - micro- p

    at the 3:20 mark - 910/949 3:20

I'd like to hear it if anyone knows of a sample...

No answer to your question, but the example at 3:20 is the OU812 effect, on the money. When hits the top two open strings, you hear the doubling tones just gurgling against each other.

He wasn't aiming for Ed's tone, of course, and the effected signal sounds a bit wet, but the unique tone of the 949 is plain as day when he hits those open strings & just lets them ring out.

Thanks man. I was kind of thinking that. Not exactly aiming for Ed or anyone in particular, but I quite that effect. I think I'll have to put the eventide on lay away at L&M.

If I recall correctly, the H9 is less expensive, and comes with both the Micropitch AND 949 algorithms automatically. I may be wrong about pricing, it's been a year or two since I delved into researching those units.

Yeah they are more compact too, but I don't know if I want to mess with patches and computers. I get more than enough computers now. I started banning them when it comes to guitar playing.

I used to have a Boss Harmonist PS-6 before I bought my Pitchfactor. The Boss did sound damn good and I think it would pretty much get you 'that' tone. Overall, I'm much happier with my Pitchfactor though. The Boss will not detune in stereo unless you have the 2nd output connected, so you're limited to either + or - on the detune. The Pitchfactor (at least to my knowledge) is the only pedal on the market that will downmix the +/- detune into a single channel if you're running in mono. So you can get the stereo detune effect even if you're not running in stereo. The Pitchfactor comes with the 910/949 algorithms, and the Micropitch algorithm. I'm not sure if the base model H9 comes with Micropitch, though.

I have several presets saved and use much more than just the detune so the pedal's totally worth it to me. I have different presets for different eras of VH, along with several diatonic presets saved for major/minor 3rds for when I'm playing different Boston or Maiden songs--along with a bunch of other shit.

The H9 for sure comes with the 919/949 algorithm. The micropitch has to be purchased, but depending on which H9 you buy, it comes with one free coupon. The H9 Max has all current (and future) algorithms. The H9 has a bunch but not all. The H9 core has none, but is useful when you have more than one H9... you only need to buy an algorithm once and all other H9s will honor it.

I would be interested to see and try your pitchfactor presets. I run my H9 mono through the 5150 III loop

I dont really have anything other than my iphone to record right now. But let me see if I can track a clip in the next couple days and post it. It wont be great sounding but you'll see what I mean. When I put it on d tune and adjust the settings, it sounds amazing and about as close to a Balance era sound as you can get without spending a major amount of coin.

I can appreciate that, but consider that you don't use a computer, just your iPhone or iPad.

There will be very *few* people who will report its easier to dial-in tones on the PitchFactor compared to a touchscreen device.

If you're simply saying you prefer a simple stomp box format, like the Boss pedal, then that's different than comparing the two Eventide models.

You're not "wrong" for your opinions or feelings on any of these topics. I'm merely pointing out some things to consider.

Long story, but bottom line my PV 5150 is easier to record with my iPhone or iPad. I did some great sounding VH II clips that way. Unfortunately my playing sucked so I erased them. But they were exactly as I keep saying. I hear VH II in my old 5150 half stack. Go for it. Obviously put your phone some where it sounds best.

FYI I use iRig pro as an interface in to my iPad. Works on phones too I think. It sounds very good! Old workhorse SM-57 and away we go!

So just go for it! I'm sure it'll sound great!

Good point man. I was watching videos last night and you can do an awful lot with the H9. I like the smaller form factor too. I have to compare prices. Too many choices. I was kinda hoping to lean towards the more simple stomp box, but I want to make sure I can achieve what I want.
