This is what I mean by change. You know where I stand about "change".

It may mean that he's got to create someting new. Give something new. Product.

I guess they just wanted a relatively quick run, to recoup costs for live album? Do they even have a record contract? I don't follow the details.

Touring without any new music being released, no big name opening band. Considering all of the above, I think the figures are good. What do they need to do for the next tour? No, Sam is not the answer. They need to keep ticket prices lower (Azoff is a greedy bastard who was so proud of himself for being the manager of the first band, The Eagles, that could charge over $100 for tickets decades ago). Get a better known opening act like Boston, Styx, etc. Release a new cd before the tour. Get somebody smarter to book the dates for them (play Va Beach for the first time since 98 ilo Raleigh, why play in a open field in some small city in Canada?). The main problem with this tour was the ticket prices were too high.

Also, no promotion AT ALL except that miserable interview he gave.

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

And the way DL has been selling tickets for the last decade or so is they package themsleves with 2 good opening bands. This tour they used Styx and Tesla. A few years ago they used Styx and Foreigner...I snagged some last minute ticktets to that show in the 5th row because i was as interested in seeing the 2 opening bands as i was DL. And for all of those who say DLR cannot sing, have you seen DL in the past decade? Joe Elliot lost his voice years ago, sounds like shit live, and they are still selling tickets. Good opening acts, keep the ticket prices reasonable, it's not that complicated.

No record deal. Well, we've been screaming for a new album.

Ed doesn't promote shit anyway, they left it all to Dave mostly

Guys, wait for the Profit List in Billboard...

This simple ticket gross list is not an accurate measure of their relative success (profit) in the industry

It's just like the Movie Industry... there are massive expenses, and other revenues that need to be factored into the judgement to gauge what projects made the most PROFIT...

They were number 4 in 2012...

Livenation probably paid them a fee... regardless of final #'s, no? So this only matters to Livenation to recoup

and a few million more is not going to make Ed happi-er....

    How do you know that?

They're masters of smiling up there on stage and acting like it's all good before it implodes.

Another thing to consider....Livenation not only rapes us with their fees, but i saw the president of LN on Jim Cramer's Mad Money this summer, and I learned that LN now owns many of the sheds around the nation. So, they are making a shitload of money on those overpriced beers they are selling at the sheds. And you know, on a warm summer evening, VH fans are buying alot of beer!

well - when I met them - individually - except Dave - and some of their families; (including kody; lol) they all mentioned how much fun they were having this summer (this was august); and it was blatantly obvious if you saw their performance.
I'm not going to try to convince you further.

Which is why those numbers are surprising. Then again, didn't we just learn that the concert industry has been suffering?
