Yes, Utah's Daily Herald, with its staggering print circulation of 20,000, has always been the first -- and really, only -- publication that springs to mind when the expression "rock journalism" is uttered.

No "Summer Nights", "Love Walks In", "Mine All Mine" or "Source Of Infection"?

Mine All Mine is, IMO, the most glaring omission. That is possibly my favourite solo of the Van Hagar years, and that C major arpeggio that he does at the end is just so perfect.

For me, Van Hagar solos are on average a lot more memorable than six pack solos. I'm not saying this to start an argument, I'm saying when I here the solos I feel they are more unique and usually have memorable hooks to them.

Agreed. Never rated Summer Nights but LIW, MAM and SOI are super-stellar. Ad they all showcase the three most identifiable sides to Eddie's soling.

LWI is composed and measured, MAM is Ed at his slippery, throwing-noises-at-the-wall, falling down the stairs and landing on his feet best and SOI is a tour-de-force of pure energy and ass-kickery.

Glad someone else feels the same. So simple yet so orgasmic. Pure genius.

I agree. Van Halen and 1984 excepted.

What about Fair Warning? Hear About It Later, Push Comes To Shove, So This Is Love? and One Foot Out The Door have absolutely amazing solos.

How about DOA? Or Somebody Get Me a Doctor? Out of Love? There's "hooks" in all three of those. And that's just on VHII.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

What Edward did with One Way, is off the charts.

The thread is about VAN HAGAR solos. NOT CVH.

What about them? We're talking Van Hagar here.
I'm agreeing with you so not sure why you're questioning back with CVH.

The LWAN version put every hotshot, who'd come along since his initial guitar revolution, back in their place.

I'm not saying this to start an argument either, but that is so wrong it's not right. Eddie Van Halen's guitar work on the six pack was revolutionary. Right or wrong, one of the bones of contention with the Hagar years was the lack of innovation or progress in his guitar playing. People forget that back then many felt that Eddie was rehashing his licks and was offering nothing new to the table. Agree or disagree, that was/is the critique.

That's not to say that there were no good solos during those years, I personally like the solo in "Feelin' ", but "more memorable "? Sorry that just doesn't compute.

EDIT: Yaminub made the comment. It's OK for people to respond to it.

I was replying to your post in which you replied to yaminub's post where we wrote, "For me, Van Hagar solos are on average a lot more memorable than six pack solos. I'm not saying this to start an argument, I'm saying when I here the solos I feel they are more unique and usually have memorable hooks to them."

You then wrote, "I agree. Van Halen and 1984 excepted."

I simply cited an example of another "six pack" album with four solos which I feel are "unique with memorable hooks".
