The '90s weren't good to VH? WACF didn't go back into their old catalogue? Thought UCR was alright until now.

Just focusing on the Dave / Sammy albums, even the worst of them is a great album, better than a lot of other bands efforts. There's not really a bad album among them, and very few bands can say that.

Been done a gazillion times, but fuck, I'll play. Probably different than the last time I did it.

    1. Van Halen
    2. WACF
    3. Fair Warning
    4. VHII
    5. 1984

    11. OU812

The first five are perfect or almost perfect, the next two just have a couple things about them I don't like, but overall still great, the next four are almost interchangeable, and twelve is just all bad. Don't like a single song on it, even after multiple purchases and PLENTY of attempts to like it.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

Agreed. If you are a Van Halen fan, there is something to like about all the albums, all of them are an enjoyable spin...except III.

OU812 is my favorite album; however, I recognize the brilliance and influence of several of Van Halen's albums.

Van Halen's most influential albums, IMO, are Van Halen, 1984, and 5150: debut, commercial shift, new singer and sound.

While WACF is not in my list of most influential, I think it is the best among the Dave Era. It just captures everything that is awesome about the early sound.

I honestly believe that just a few tweaks to Balance would place it in consideration for one of Van Halen's best. Make it 8-9 song album: The Seventh Seal, DTMWLCD, Amsterdam, Aftershock, Crossing Over, CSLY, Not Enough, Take Me Back, and Feelin'.

My appreciation for Diver Down has grown in the last month. My lack of enthusiasm for ADKOT has also grown.

I also think For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is a couple of tweaks away from utter brilliance.

Van Halen II is so good but it just suffers from following Van Hale, IMO.

    Thoughts on my take???

OU812 has a lot of variety and several good songs. I've always thought 5150 was better, though.

I would tend to agree that Van Halen, 1984 and 5150 are Van Halen's most influential albums. (Van Halen and 1984, for sure).

WACF is only my 5th favorite Dave-era album, but it is still an awesome record.

Balance just isn't one of my favorites. I really like The Seventh Seal, Amsterdam and Aftershock, though.

Diver Down has four awesome originals and way too many cover songs. I still like ADKOT as much as I did when it was released nearly four years ago.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge has some of great tunes: Poundcake, Runaround, The Dream Is Over and Top Of The World are my favorites.

Van Halen II is, IMO the underrated jewel of the VH catalog. Not a bad song on the entire album.

These types of lists have been done many times before....
Since most of VH's music depends on what I feel like listening to on any given day, as I like all eras of the band, many of the albums and tunes can often be interchangeable.

    Two things FOR ME that haven't changed though, are;

    Favorite VH album - 1984.
Least Favorite VH album - Diver Down.
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora
