Thumbs up David Lee Roth 2015

    DLR 2015 -
Happy Sunday Sports Fans. As we approach 2016, there are many speculative threads about VH
One VH tid-bit is clear with me. Dave Roth is intact. He delivered on his end of the deal. In fact, Dave has been a model citizen since he re-joined "Howdy Dooty Mountain" in 2007
3 Tours, 1 New CD, 1 Live CD. All in All, the tours were VERY good. If Dave's contract is up, he can walk with his head held high. He proved a lot over the past 9 plus years.
My guess is, if Ed were up to it, Dave would have been more than willing to write more new music. That's speculation on my end, but it feels correct.

Dave has achieved what many thought would not EVER- EVER happen. He was able to link up with the VH boys again (successfully) and tour multiple times. He was graceful and dignified. He kept "Diamond Dave" in check
How many interviews did he give in 9 years? Not many and he certainly was not rubbing anyone the wrong way. Dave made a concerted effort to "make it work".
BTW, Dave's older interviews now seem tame in comparison to what past & present VH members have slung in bio-books & magazines in recent history

In fact, in VH world, he was the quiet one with regard to spicy press releases, comments and general hate speak that is the new normal in press releases lately.

Dave 2015 is NOT Dave 1984. His voice is apparently shot and his trademark scream / howl has left the building. Damn !!!
Dave 2015 is NO LONGER Tarzan Dave. No more high rise jump split (Russian) gymnastics etc. Age is a bitch and she gets us all in the end. Even David Lee

When I recently saw the Eat Em' & Smile Rumors, I knew something was probably up and not good for VH fans. This type of rumor usually leads to VH (negative) drama.... And.... right on cue
That said, I won't let it bug me. Roth achieved a lot in 9 years, as did the band. If if ends now, so be it. I finally got to see my hero's on tour ( 2X) and it was AWESOME !! Eddie was amazing on the 2012 Tour and by all accounts 2015 too.
Side note, I'd love to see VH with Dave & Mike one time as we all would. That said, if it wasn't for Wolfie, we wouldn't have the past 9 years etc. And Wolfie is fantastic in every way. That young man has a bright future and has supreme talent.

In closing.... Congrats Dave Roth, you my friend left it all on the field. A true inspiration

Good post. You nailed Dave's contributions and character over the past 9 years.

Dave's done an incredible job over the last nine years, overall. He really has gone out of his way to 'make it work', as the OP noted.
Through all the different periods of silence where some claimed he was being neutered, he was actually being smart. ie; don't tip the canoe... I was going to say 'don't rock the boat', but Dave's been rockin' the boat the whole time! And no, I'm not referring to Tokyo 2013 live or the cover art! LOL.

He knows it's Ed's ship, so to speak, and it's sink or swim. He's done well in that regard.
From the "best times of my life are onstage with you, homeboy" on this last tour, or the "It's a privilege to be here tonight!" quips on the 2007 reunion - Dave knows he's lucky and fortunate have been back in the fold at those moments.

He's had some quirks and tortured yelps on tour, yet he's still put on a hell of a good show at the same time. He's cracked his nose open on a live tv show and even returned to let the show go on. He's got my respect in many ways, and that's just from the last nine years alone... Never mind the 30 some odd years of loving his music with VH!!!

    Cheers, Dave.

    Cheers to Dave.

    And you know what else?

He did it all without taking pot shots.

"What we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever — that was in Michael Anthony,” Roth explains. “In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys… so I would always look forward to that reunion.”

    He's matured...

I even laughed at his "This hamburger don't need no helper" remark, and I'm also a Sammy fan!
He was funny and cool, without being a prick.

I thought DLR on the 2007/08 tour redeemed his legend. He was the highlight of the show for me, and I never thought I would see DLR carry a show again, and him and Al were the glue that held a show together that at many times felt like it was on the edge of going off the rails, with a wide eyed kid on bass and a still recovering Ed.

Al's a constant, so he sometimes gets taken for granted, so I don't want to leave him out of the analysis, but DLR was the surprise highlight of the show when I saw them in 2007. His voice was a liability in 2012, and again in 2015, but he put on a better show in 2015 in my opinion, he was great at my 2015 concert, even with his now glaring vocal limitations.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Oh look, Dave is cool again.

Seriously, the guy rocked out in 2015. He listened to the critiques of his unnecessary desire to sing higher and adjusted. LIke I have said before, no matter how he performs some people will always bitch.

Excellent point regarding Alex VH . Alex has been there for the whole ride and I get the impression that he is the medium between Ed & Dave. Also, Al's drum sound & style are tantamount to the classic VH sound

Dave delivered the goods for this final chapter of Van Halen. Fans got to hear their classic songs live and receive a terrific album that enhanced their legacy. He brought energy, wit and fun for the past nine years. Just like during their original time together, Dave provided an excellent counterpoint to Eddie and inspired his playing. All in all a very satisfying return and closure for VH.

Dave has taken a lot of flack for the past 15 years or more for being a shadow of his former self, and even as someone who is holy unimpressed with his voice his touch of humility in recent years has served him well. Honestly though, if he weren't under a gag order (we all know to some extent) I think he could do far more with the VH brand. As is, he made the best of what he could in my opinion.

PS - I realize I might not have all the years right, but I think the general premise remains intact if I don't. The creative desire has left the band. Which is ok, they can do what they want.

    I think we all do!

Wildman really loves Devon Townsend (for example), how many dozens of albums has he recorded and released? Same with Steve Vai/Paul Gilbert/Yngwie, etc.
Shame that all that material Eddie has, will likely and sadly just keep sitting on those shelves in 5150.

It really is a shame that Van Halen has the talent of a young Kobe Bryant, but the work ethic of an old Shaquille O'Neal.
