Default Lack of ADKOT on '15 Tour

First off--there's no way I or anyone could complain about the setlist this tour. I mean, breaking out three deep-cuts (three "great" deep-cuts I should say) that were were never played, and a couple other rarities that haven't been played in decades (outside of VH3's version with one)...that's unreal by VH standards.

But one little gripe I must say is that they didn't do any different "Different Kind of Truth"'s. "She's the Woman" I agree to keep. "China Town"...I know, it's because father and son get to shred together, but they already kinda get to do that on STW. I love CT, don't get me wrong, but it's my least fave on the whole album, and it's a similar-type song as STW. They should've definitely added a different one in there. Not just for obvious reasons, like us die-hards really, really want to fuckin' hear them live! But also, for another reason, that is what's the difference between playing them or '78-'84 non-hits?

A lot of the fans at the show wouldn't even know if "As Is" was new or from the '70s/'80s. I know Eddie says the "bathroom break" thing like after the '04 tour, but these songs are clearly better and these recent tours weren't like that one if you catch my drift, which I'm sure had something to do with it.

They should've done at least 1 new one. "As Is" they already rehearsed. If Dave can sing LUTS's fast verses he can do AI. "Stay Frosty" is a huge no-brainer, but that one I can see him having a hard time singing. Maybe if they did a condensed version along with ICM or something. He did fuck with it a few times acoustically/spoken-word which was awesome, but obviously not the same thing.

So they should've done STW and the other repping that album should've been SF or AI. To show some more respect to that great album. They definitely should have.

Just because it was the first album with Dave since 1984, I had hoped they'd showcase most of the record, live.
Much like they did on the 5150 tour. I thought they really would do more off of it, also because it was Wolfgang's maiden release.

I'm actually surprised they didn't pull more material off there to put in the set list. Then again, Wolf was in charge of those lists! Haha.

I think She's the Woman is the only song on ADKOT with any staying power for the live performances. The band executed all of them very well in 2012 and the few they played in 2015. The crowd just doesn't know them or seem interested in learning any new material at this point. (People like us are an exception at these shows.)

I would love to have heard some of the others like 'You and Your Blues', 'Big River' or 'Stay Frosty'. Not sure why the didn't do any more but so be it.
    Maybe on the 2025 tour.

I would have liked to hear more songs from ADKOT. However, there were as many songs played live from ADKOT (2) compared to 2 songs from WACF, Fair Warning and Diver Down (to include Cathedral). I thought the setlist accurately represented a good portion of the VH catalog from the 7 albums with Dave fronting.

Van Halen is a nostalgia act, and they know it. 95% of the crowd is NOT there to hear anything off of ADKOT, and you can hear that in the crowd response to anything from it.

At least in the shows I've seen, the energy of the crowd drops precipitously whenever they played Tattoo, Chinatown or She's the Woman.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Exactly. Combine this with the fact that nobody (except the likes of Adele and Taylor Swift) can sell albums anymore and it's no mystery why we likely will not be getting a follow up to ADKOT.

But what's the difference between "You and Your Blues" to, say, IASR to an average concert-goer, which was my point?

I think there is a big difference between a deep cut from the six pack and a deep cut from ADKOT. And based upon the popularity of ADKOT, they are pretty much all deep cuts.

There was very little energy when they played She's The Woman. People just want to hear the old stuff.

the money is all in touring and licensing these days, so any recording is just done is an expensive exercise done to satisfy themselves. Record sales prove to them that it is not to satisfy the masses.

I will keep saying this until I am blue in the face.

Van Halen could record a professional album at almost NO cost if they wanted to.
