Default Video from my first gig with my new VH tribute.

Don't be shy in your critique. A few notes though. We started this project on 10/05. Three weeks ago that drummer went to jail and we never heard from him again. Second drummer was moving out from CA on 12/01, and was practicing at home on our setlist. Singer and bassist had played with him before and all assured me he was on top of everything. We had a few quiet practices at my house with isolated drum backing tracks and then the second drummer had a death in the family on 12/01. Third drummer is one of those guys every town needs - a journeyman who can do everything and is always willing rescue some poor schmucks like us. We had a practice with him on Wed. and Thurs. last week.

Rig is an EVH 5150 III 100s though a Marshall 1960B and EVH 4x12. I slapped a SD JB in the Frankie on Fri. night because Musician's Friend sent me the wrong DiMarzio I had ordered. I had the JB laying around and am now in love with it. I was disappointed in several flubs, mostly when the lights went out during my intro to Mean Street and I could not see my right hand at all for tapping the harmonics. But about 10 people came up to me and said how great my tone was and that felt pretty good.

Again be brutal in your critique. I can take it.

Yeah I got a complaint. Needs to be louder. Tone sounds good. Good pinch harmonics and everything.

I thought you guys sounded good, Rick! Agree that it could be louder, but that's a camera issue, not a slight on the band.
Great guitar tone IMO. You guys had a good mix in this video. I could hear all the parts.

Totally get what you mean about the drummer - been there done that!
The timing on certain notes during the guitar solo might've been a bit behind the beat, but Eddie himself often does the same thing! LOL.

Nice to see you posting some playing clips. Hope there's more to come. Cheers

Ok, well, I couldn't do anything about how the mix sounded where my wife was filming. That bar general has fantastic sound, though. So I'm sure the backing vocals sounded fine from other vantage points. Here's another.

Far be it for me to criticize your playing, I think you're playing is great.

Not a huge fan of your singer, but that's always pretty subjective.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Liked the solo you did, and the overall song itself. This is one of those VH tunes I always dug, but never played live. You did it justice for sure!

Drum 'solo' at the end was also neat. Any more gigs lined up?

Gonna be tough to line up the next gig until we get a permanent drummer and are all up to speed. We booked this gig way before we should have because the bar owner just happened to text me in the middle of the first band practice, which was going well. So I asked the guys right then and there if they wanted a gig on 12/05 and they all said to book it. Things unraveled quickly from there. My Rush tribute has a gig in two weeks and, last I had heard from the booking guy, he was looking for a second band. But then Fri. I heard he was fired and didn't tell his boss we weren't playing the whole night. So.... I could get us a gig that night, make it all Rush and VH, but I'm not comfortable with that yet.

Yeah, the singer, IMHO was weak last night, but not because of what you saw in these videos. He just didn't get the crowd going and there was a lot of dead air between songs. When you're playing dive bars for scraps, you don't have roadies handling your every issue. Sometimes I need a second between songs to fix something, check tuning, etc. And it was very awkward to have dead silence or drunks yelling out requests while I was getting ready for the next song. Oh well. First gig was doomed and we pulled it off.

I went back and forth between blue and red a lot. All VH I tunes, always red. Everything else up in the air. If I had had that JB in there during band practice, I'd have been more selective, but tended toward red, just to make sure I was never lacking crunch or sustain. I was wearing earplugs to keep my backing vocals on key and they obviously muffled what I heard out of my cabs.

Do you have any more videos from your maiden VH tribute gig?
I like what I've seen & heard so far. How long did you guys play for, and did you do any kind of EVH/Eruption solo?
