Thumbs up The Man In The High Castle Internet Series on Amazon

I've been enjoying binge watching The Man In The High Castle series streaming on the internet through Amazon.

It is an alternate history, as if the Axis powers had won WWII, and taken over the US with a divided territory, the west coast for Japan, and middle "Neutral Zone," and, the rest of the US for the Third Reich. The story line follows those in the resistance, and those trying to stamp out the resistance, and as a twist, trying to capture rare films that show the Allied powers actually winning the war.

The Amazon produced series is based on the writing of author Philip K. Dick, who wrote the book that Blade Runner was based on.

So, there are, twists and turns. I ran across the series in a banner when I went to Amazon Prime to watch another movie.

I've watched 9 episodes so far.

I don't subscribe but I was going to try the 30 day free trial to watch this show and another

so, I'm assuming it's pretty good if you are 9 episodes in

Yes, I hardly ever watch these series, whether they're on TV, cable, or through the internet.

But, I've gotten "hooked", mainly because of the subject matter, and, it seems to be well acted and produced enough, as to not turn me away. I find the exploration of the Japanese culture fascinating.

We finished it yesterday. If you're hooked by the concept, like a good show with some twists and turns, you should enjoy it. A few people I've talked to think the pace is painfully slow.

There are some truly unsettling things in the show, like the shot of Times Square in the pilot, how neighbors in the east say, "Seig heil," to each other the same way we say, "How ya doin'?" And other imagery, some
Of which Amazon ironically came under fire for in their advertising of the series.

I'm waiting for the series to end to read the Philip K. Dick novel, though I do know they have made some changes: in the book it's a novel not a film, and not a whole lot goes on in the east, so the show created Obergruppenführer John Smith (Rufus Sewell) to spend time there.

Anyway, I hope some of you finish soon so we can exchange ideas, thoughts, and theories!

Wanted to enjoy this but it took me 2 attempts to get through the pilot. And though it will be explained later, I couldn't get my head round the woman watching the clip of Churchill signalling 'V for victory' and insisting the Germans didn't win the war when her entire country is under Nazi rule.

If you also felt the first episode was slow I may give it another go but so far, am unimpressed.

Default The Man In The High Castle Internet Series on Amazon

To the above "getting your head around," this is based upon a novel by Philip K. Dick. Other works turned into films: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau, Next.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that one should expect, at some point in the series, a sci-fi element or two.

...I didn't even KNOW there had already been a "first season".

I just noticed the ads for this series in the last few weeks. I"m REALLY intrigued by the concept. I just don't know if I want to subscribe to ANOTHER streaming service, and I haven't even checked around if TMITHC is showing second-run anywhere else.

I've actually toyed with the idea of reading the book first, to kill time until the series shows up somewhere else (hopefully)...

One thing I'd say is that it's not just streaming films and tv, there's also free shipping, streamlined my music, and the Kindle lending library.

I'm looking forward to starting it. My Amazon watch list is packed with tons of stuff I keep forgetting to watch.

I've heard good feedback on this. Plus it's streaming in 4k, which is incentive enough for me to give it a try.

Sounds interesting. I haven't been able to get it up here yet.

I read a great book in the 90's by Robert Harris called Fatherland. Crime novel set in 1964 Germany after they won the war.
They also made a movie out of it but it was shit. The only good thing about the movie was Rutger Hauer was in it.

    Goddamn it!

I told myself, "Just watch the pilot...it's free on Amazon...what could it hurt?" Yeah, right. I'm only a half-hour in, and just the end of the scene with the flat tire and egg salad sandwich has me slack-jawed and HOOKED.

...and suddenly I feel like Daisy coming late to the LOST thread...

(looks like I'm ponying up another $8.95/month (or whatever it is) for ANOTHER online subscription service...ARRRRGH!!!)
