    Default Doc McGhee Interview

So I just listened to the Doc McGhee interview on Chris Jericho's podcast and a couple of interesting VH tidbits were raised that I didn't know.

    - at the Monsters of Rock tour in Europe one of the guys in Motley Crue bit Eddie Van Halen at some sort of banquet. This led to some sort of fight between the bands and Motley getting booted from the tour.

    - Prior to Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet, Doc apparently had Jon Bon Jovi at his place in Florida and showed him some VH stuff and said something along the lines of your first two records sucked, this is what you need to be as you'll be replacing these guys since they won't be around much longer.

    The first claim sounds ridiculous.

this is in a book i think..

    ---
there's a story in one of the AC/DC books ("Why AC/DC Matters", I think) that at Donington 84 Nikki Sixx was going around backstage biting people!!!!! (he was high, obviously.) And he bit Eddie Van Halen's hand before he had to go onstage and play guitar. And he walked up to Malcolm as if he was going to bite him too, and Malcolm just looked at him and said "Fucking bite me, mate, and I will fucking kill you." And that was the end of it.

Not when you consider that it's Motley Crue, those guys were jacked out of their minds 90% of the waking day.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

So, when Nikki Sixx wasn't coming back from the dead after overdosing he was going around biting people?

This confirms it. Motley Crue bites.

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

Also, if "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey" had sounded more like Van Halen, I probably wouldn't despise Bon Jovi.

I think it's a ridiculous comparison, because classic VH and Bon Jovi are two
    completely different types of bands.

It would be like playing "Master of puppets" for Nickelback, and saying, "This is
what you guys need to sound like."

Yeah sounding more like VH was received as well as Donn Landee's note to Ed during OU812's mixing process

    "needs more bass"

Cocaine is a hell of a drug. Nikki must have been wearing a cup.

Agreed. That's actually one thing I have to admire about Bon Jovi....they didn't just try to copy VH.

They didn't have the chops or the creativity to copy Van Halen.

That's why Doc's suggestion sounds so odd, to me.
