Default If Van Halen had never been signed ...

And you had never even heard of them, is there another band who would have captured your attention and passion the way VH did? I remember being into the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Elton John, Boston and Foreigner before discovering Van Halen. Once I was exposed to VH, it was all over.

    Thoughts?

    Short answer? No.
No one else would've hit me the same way that VH did.

I was (and still am!) really impressed with Ozzy/Randy, Ozzy/Jake, though, as well as Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, etc.
Even though several of them carried a VH influence, I feel that they would've hit the airwaves and MTV regardless.

Nobody will ever come close to VH. Zep used to be my second fav band but I rarely listen to them anymore because they're so damn overblown by everybody. Then the Who was my second fav for years, but honestly they have a lot of hit or miss songs. But when they were "on" they were incredible.

In the last 25 years the only band that has consistently held my attention, besides VH, is Tool. They're the only other band I don't seem to get tired of listening to. Unfortunately, they just don't have that many albums, but they're phenomenal players.

Tough to answer. A lot of bands either would not have existed, or existed as we know them.

    No.

It was VH that made me take notice of Zep, The Who, and everybody else.

    They were my "Big Bang".

I was heavy into Ozzy though, too. Although I had heard and liked Blizzard and DOAM...it was BATM that had the biggest impact on me, along with VH.

I'd also throw early GNR in there too. I really dug them when they first came out, and they were almost the "anti-L.A. scene" hard rock band, in several ways.

Randy was incredible, but Jake was my favorite Ozzy's guitarist. Zakk is nowhere near either of them.

Takes me too long to type a post but I like this hypothetical " What if there was no VH..."....Would there be another act that captivated your attention in the same way as we are fans of VH??????

Definitely NO fucking way at all......no other band affected me like VH......

I've got something to say about this.

I'll finish my post later or tomorrow.

Ill say this now though.....Plenty of music I enjoy.....Allman Brothers, ACDC, Aerosmith, etc,etc,etc,..........

VH is the one and only band I'm obsessed with to collect memorabilia and so forth.....

I'll read up about everything else but VH is the only act I collect and check up on regularly.

I've probably stated this more than once on these boards, but the two bands I'm absolutely obsessed with are Van Halen and The Police. The music of both bands is truly magical to me.

I'll probably catch some flack for this, but if you put a gun to my head and demanded "choose your favourite motherfucker" it would actually be The Police! It's literally a Planck Length between the two though, and fortunately, I don't have to make that choice!

Anyway, I guess my answer to the question is The Police by default!

Me, too! Van Halen kept hard rock and the musical lineage from the Woodstock era going in the 1980's. If they hadn't been around and Duran Duran and Men Without Hats had been all we'd known, I don't know if I'd found Led Zeppelin and The Who, Janis Joplin, Crosby, Stills & Nash, etc.
