    Happy Halloween!!!

Speaking of which, I voted for the Halloween franchise. I've always been a fan of horror movies, and Friday the 13th pt 2 is my favorite of all time. My old band was even called "Voorhees", before we found out that there was an obscure punk band by the same name - ala VH and their early "Genesis" moniker! Haha.

Having said that, F13th got very cartoony and comical after the 3rd entry, although the 2009 remake returned the main character to his roots - they finally made Jason scary and human again!

The Halloween franchise has scored considerably higher points in the genuine scare department. Michael Myers was creepy ass hell and had some violent kills. There really was an eerie atmosphere to the films, and although there were some cheesy moments, I feel that overall, the series was scary and brutal - the mark of a good horror franchise.

The SAW series gets honorable mention for it's innovative plots and kill scenes, in today's age.

Dude that's awesome. Voorhees. Too bad it was taken! I love the Friday the 13th series. I have the first one on DVD and watched it last night. I didn't even realize the woman who plays Jason's mother (Betsy Palmer) had a pretty successful film career in the 50s. I looked up the actors while I was watching it.

Although it doesn't come across as scary anymore by a long shot, I still think the original Nosferatu (1922) is the creepiest looking movie monster!download (1).jpg

I'm surprised Leatherface (Chainsaw Massacre) wasn't part of the poll. He's certainly more popular than Chucky, or Final Destination.

I'm going with Friday the 13th, followed closely by Halloween.

By the way, the write-up for Friday the 13th is incorrect. Jason was not featured in all the films. His mother was the killer in part 1. And he was not in Part 5, it was someone pretending to be him--that was kind of similar to Halloween 3 in that it shouldn't have been part of the franchise.

Well, he kind of was in the first one because he is revealed at the very end, coming out
    of the water.

Salem's Lot scared the living fuck out of me as a child.
They let me watch this in 1979, which was really stupid, and Kurt Barlow just terrified me
to the point i could not sleep for like two weeks.
He was somewhat based on Nosferatu, but with more rat-like features.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was brilliant.
That film shook me to the core, felt like i was actually in that house.

Tobe Hopper did both films i mentioned.
I'll take him over Romero or Craven, any day.

    Haha, thanks man!
I remember one gig that was about 1 1/2 hrs out of town. Our flyers had been put up around town by some fans of ours, yet at the gig, a couple of people showed up - expecting to see the other Voorhees! A bit awkward a first, but we won them over...

Yes, Betsy Palmer was pretty famous in her own right before F13th. It's part of the 'bait and switch' that Sean Cunningham wanted for the final scenes - to have the wholesome/all American Mrs. Palmer, turn out to be the maniacal killer... It worked!

Yeah, I thought of mentioning that, but it doesn't really count.
He's barely in Jason Goes to Hell. That shouldn't count either. But at least it's the REAL Jason at the end.

I dont think there has been one horror franchise that hasnt been turned to shit bycountless upon countless sequels, so its hard to even answer this question. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Exorcist, Saw, Paranormal Activity, Texas Chainsaw...They all had INSANELY strong legendary first movies and they were slowly followed up with shit.

If I had to pick Id probably go with Exorcist simply because they only made 3 movies after the original.

You forgot the Amityville Horror sequels!
Part 2 was fair enough, part 3 had some fun parts, the bottom of the barrel ones that followed were/are tough to watch...

There will be yet another Amityville reboot coming out next year.

And there will be an origin film about Leatherface. If done right (which I doubt), it could be interesting.

The next Friday the 13th sequel has been pushed back (again) to 2017. Not sure what's taking so long. Are they waiting for Scorsese's schedule to open up? lol

Didn't know about Amityville! Wow, didn't they just have one in the theaters this year?

Leatherface, I'd heard about. Hope it's a worthy addition, as I actually liked the remake, and Beginning movies. The recent "sequel" was hit or miss for me.

Bummer about F13th... they had momentum in the 2009 reboot, and should've kept that going IMO. I heard they're not using that as a springboard for more, and aren't using Mears as JV... Too bad!

I loved the remake of that, it was extremely dark.
I thought the director did a great job putting his own stamp on it.

As for Jason, my favorite was the one in II & III.
I loved the more vulnerable Jason in part II, where he actually cowers in one
scene when Amy Steele comes at him with a weapon.

He was not quite an adult at that point, just a psychotic teenager with a bag
    covering his head & overalls.
He was slightly more clumsy but still ruthless, and i liked that vibe.
It seemed more realistic, as opposed to the Jason that just stares & walks slowly.

III was super creepy, mostly due to him hiding in the barn.
    That was a great setting.
I loved when he jumped from the loft and went at the gang member, and you
only see the gang member's expression.

The dream sequence was so weird, though, where the implication is the main
girl was raped by Jason, many years before when she was a girl.
