Default Most interesting thing you've read in a Van Halen interview

I remember reading an old interview where Eddie said he approached Ritchie Blackmore and John Bonham at their table at the Rainbow either before or right after VHI was released and they both told him, "F*** Off!!" But he said he ran into Ritchie a few months or a year later and he was very nice and complimentary to Eddie. I could see those two being kind of salty to a young yet unknown Eddie.

I once read that Eddie started out playing drums.....

I think it was interesting that Eddie asked Sammy when he first met him backstage why he didn't stay in Montrose.

I bet Richie Blackmore (among many others) wishes that Eddie had continued to play drums and never picked up a guitar.

Why would Ritchie wish that? Ritchie is a legend. Edwards status does nothing to diminish that.

The note in the Billboard interview that Mike "did not phone when Eddie developed cancer (or when Eddie and Alex’s mother died)."

All reports, and personal experience, indicate Mike is a 100% class act but for whatever reason he didn't make that call.

Agree with that. They're just so different, Blackmore doesn't have anything to feel insecure about though.

I just said that because of the story about Blackmore being a total dick to Eddie when they first met. I heard Joe Perry did the same thing to Eddie.

I'm just baffled by the evolution of, not only porn stars (they keep getting hotter, it seems), but
    also young guitar players/shredders.

This girl is 15 or 16, she's like Blackmore times twenty, and she doesn't even look at the damn
    neck!

    How is this even possible?

Can you imagine if Eddie comes out in 1978, and then this teenaged girl appears a week later
playing with Deep Purple or something?

Eddie would be pissed like Blackmore & Perry were, LOL!

It's annoying because it comes across as "I'm so good, that I'm bored".

I may get ribbed for this but I would take 10 CC Devilles who are having a blast, then one of her.

What makes EVH so great is his innovation, technique and passion. Dude can write a pretty good song, too.
