Default Stryperís Michael Sweet wants Van Halen studio role

Michael says he ďdidnít getĒ A Different Kind Of Truth and wants to help them reach past heights

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet says heíd love to hit the studio with Van Halen to help them emulate past successes.

Sweet feels 2012ís A Different Kind Of Truth Ė their first with David Lee Roth on vocals since 1984 Ė was a let down. He thinks they have it in them to produce material of a similar quality to their first two albums Ė and he wants to be the one to help.

Sweet tells The Metal Voice: ďIím a huge Van Halen fan Ė about as big as they come. You know when you feel a band is just going through the motions and just not giving it their best? Thatís what I felt with that album.

ďIt got some really good reviews and Iím sitting reading them thinking, ĎIím hearing something completely different.í I just didnít get it.Ē

He continues: ďIíd love to get a hold of those guys and take them in the studio and take them back to the old school days and help them make an album thatís comparable with Van Halen I and Van Halen II. Theyíd probably have a platinum-selling album if they did that.Ē

Dealing with David Lee Roth and Ed Van Halen in the studio would probably give Michael Sweet a nervous breakdown in less than 24 hours. Dude is an excellent musician though.

Sorry. Didn't see this was covered in the random shit thread. Gets tough when every thread changes subject matter with every page.

I am in the minority i am guessing.. i wanted to leave Zero and After Zero intact and not regurgitated with less than stellar lyrics/vocals, in my humble opine... i would love to see the band hit the studio for original material. Should Mike Sweet produce? Not too sure, but he sounds hungry enough..

    Huh.

I thought ADKOT was pretty awesome - still do; so it wasn't a nostalgia thing on my side. The only thing I'd gripe about is wanting more depth / feel / sound to Al's drums and Wolf's bass.

of course i bought the album the day it came out and my son loves it.. im actually surprised by the majority of fans who really like it..maybe i have to give it another few spins?

As it stands id rather listen to VH3...and the original Zero as it was..

Has he ever produced anything? I know he's a huge fan of the classic era, so he could probably do it justice. I will disagree about ADKOT. I still dig it.

ADKOT was a good album. But it certainly was a throw back record, there is no doubt about that as many of us had heard previous versions of some of the tracks. I know many of us really liked the direction that the band was headed with Balance and even back to the tracks that they did with Dave for the greatest hits.

I can't disagree that with someone thinking there is more left in the tank.

you forget that to most people it was new...it was only "regurgitated" to us and other diehards who had heard zero. Most, including some of my closest friends who are VH fans, have never heard the demos...and thats what they were...demos.

Pretty rich coming from a guy who has written such a massive quantity of absolutely atrocious rock music.

With the exception of 4 incredible STP records (Core, Purple, No4, Shangri-La), I still hear ADKOT as easily the greatest hard rock record released in the last 20 years...

I think the reason many people don't get it is just because it's an ENTIRE LARGE VOLUME of deep B-side songs with no let-up, and the casual music listener won't easily respond to that delivery style... BUT... at the same time, that's the total beauty of it to many VH die hards.

I loved ADKOT but Van Halen 2012/2015 ain't the same as Van Halen 1978/1979.

Mr. Sweet......thank you but no thanks.

Someone posted "Beats Workin." Music does sound like classic VH - meaning awesome. Decent lyrics. Melody is good. Pre-chorus and chorus are well sung.

But you got an ATROCIOUS verse. Not only is it unacceptable singing for a major band's record, it's not even at the level of VH demos. So if someone is focusing on vocals, it's enough to turn them off. Even Vince Neil never sounded that bad on record. I fault the producer there. Since Roth could pull off a good pre-chorus and chorus, why not rewrite the verse melody so it's something within DLR's RANGE?!?!?

Now for Michael Sweet, the only commonality between him and VH is they both love stripes. That's it, and it should stay that way.
