Default Roger Waters Pens An Open Letter To Jon Bon Jovi Over Show In Israel

Roger Waters to Jon Bon Jovi: “You stand shoulder to shoulder with the settler who burned the baby”

Salon exclusive: "The dead can’t remind you of the crimes you’ve ignored," writes Waters, challenging Tel Aviv show

    Roger Waters

Letter to the pop group Bon Jovi:

Dear Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, and Tico Torres,

Often in the past I have written detailed, and sometimes even persuasive, letters to colleagues in the music business, encouraging them not to give succor to the Israeli government’s apartheid policies by performing in Israel. Having read Jon’s comments last week in Yedioth Ahronoth, I won’t waste my time drawing parallels with Apartheid South Africa and the moral stand that so many artists took then and that thousands are taking now in the face of decades of Israeli oppression of Palestinians.

So the die is cast, you are determined to proceed with your gig in Tel Aviv on October 3. You are making your stand.

    You stand shoulder to shoulder

With the settler who burned the baby

With the bulldozer driver who crushed Rachel Corrie

With the soldier who shot the soccer player’s feet to bits

With the sailor who shelled the boys on the beach

With the sniper who killed the kid in the green shirt

And the one who emptied his clip into the 13-year-old girl

And the Minister of Justice who called for genocide

You had a chance to stand

    On the side of justice

With the pilot who refused to bomb refugee camps

With the teenager who chose eight prison terms over army service

With the prisoner who fasted for 266 days until freedom

With the doctor banned from entry for saving lives

With the farmer who was cut down marching to the wall

With the legless child growing up in the rubble

And the 550 others who won’t grow up at all

Because of the missiles and tank shells and bullets we sent

The dead can’t remind you of the crimes you’ve ignored. But, lest we forget, “To stand by silent and indifferent is the greatest crime of all.”

    Roger Waters

    Dear Mr. Waters,

You are an anti semitic piece of shit.

    -BB68

This is rather calm by the standards of his normal anti-Jewish rants !!!

....what I don't see is Mr. Waters stating the actions of Iran and Hamas ect

That dude is the worst. I usually ignore the politics of entertainers. If I have to agree with everything anyone ever thinks, I wouldn’t listen to any music or watch any TV/Movies. But at some point, it becomes too much. Waters has hit that point with me.

Howard Stern Yells at Pink Floyd's Roger Waters Over Israel Remarks

"Where do you want the Jews to go, Roger?" Stern asked. "You want them just to go back to the concentration camps? What is it you want, fuckhead?"

Howard Stern probably shouldn't expect Roger Waters to make a guest appearance on the shock-jock's show anytime soon, not after absolutely lambasting the former Pink Floyd front-man for his anti-Israel activism.

"What is with Roger Waters and the Jews?" Stern asked during a seven-minute soliloquy defending Israel while insinuating over and over that Waters is anti-Semitic.

Stern's motivation was a letter Waters wrote to members of Bon Jovi, published by Salon, that castigated the rock band for an Oct. 3 performance in Tel Aviv.

Pink Floyd Fans Gain Unique Insight into 'The Wall' with New Roger Waters Film: Review

In the letter, Waters speaks of "Israeli oppression of Palestinians" and he links to several accusations of abhorrent behavior on the part of Jews in Israel.

"He's got to shut up, Roger Waters," Stern said Tuesday during his show on Sirius XM Radio. "If you take a look over there — Roger, genius, Mr. Pink Floyd — there are so many Arab countries and so much land around Israel, if you threw a pin in a pool, that's what Israel is."

Emphasizing his point with profanity throughout, Stern argued that Israel was created in the middle of a desert in a portion of the world no one wanted, until Jews showed up there.

'The Wall' Turns 35: Roger Waters Revisits Pink Floyd's Enduring Rock Opus

"The Palestinians are these Arabs that could live in Egypt; they could live in Saudia Arabia, but guess what? Those countries don't want them either," Stern said, his voice rising. "Israel has a little tiny country, and it bugs the shit out of Roger Waters. He can't f—in' deal with it."

"Where do you want the Jews to go, Roger?" Stern asked. "You want them just to go back to the concentration camps? What is it you want, fuckhead?"

"Jews, go to the dark side of moon and live," Stern joked, referencing the name of Pink Floyd's most popular record album.

I'm glad the members of Van Halen keep to themselves about their politics. I can't really remember anything that any member of the band has really come out strongly about.

The views of these guys as with any entertainer are no more or less valid than anyone else's even though a lot of them think they are just because they have a bigger microphone.

And shut the fuck up Roger Waters. Your music sucks anyway... I cannot fucking stand Pink Floyd. I know others will disagree, that's cool, but I think they're awful and boring.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.
