Default 09-22-1985-Sam and Ed perform together for the 1st time at Farm Aid (30 years ago!)

Came across an article talking about this today, I'm honestly at a loss that it's been 30 years:

pretty cool to see, I hadn't watched or listened to this in along time and for some reason it sounded a hell of a lot better today than I remember thinking it was back in the day. There's a part where Ed is jamming away and Sam is just shaking his head like he can't believe how good the guy really is.

Can't believe it's been that long. 30 years

I remember that day too because my crazy friend who was obsessed with VH went to the show just for that. I'm like dude, they're not doing a full set, it's only gonna be a few songs. I don't think it was even billed as Sammy and Eddie, I think only Sam was announced and it was rumored that Ed would be there? I can't remember the details.

I think Sam and Ed only did that one song LOL and Sammy played a few solo tunes but my friend was still super excited. Good times

I also remember the dumb fucks on the country channel cut away to commercial when Eddie started doing a solo, my buddy was so mad when he watched the tape he made (on Beta lol) the next morning.

30 years ago? Wow, time flies. Great video and performance. Saying to the crowd, while motioning to Eddie... "The King! The King!"
    Yup

from what I remember Ed was a surprise guest. What happened was Sam introduced Ed and they played Rock and Roll, before that Sam said something like "this is for all you truck driving mother fuckers" and the channel it was on freaked out so they cut away from Ed's solo. after the solo Sam and the band came back out and did Wild thing and I think he announced he was joining VH BUT the channel it was on didn't show that stuff....lol

Here's Sammy talking (LYING) about it in a new interview. Love the guy, but honestly, his revisionist history is beyond irritating.

    Here's another article on it.

I remember hearing that Ed or Sam yelled "Hey, you country mother fuckers, check this wild shit out," right before Ed's solo. The station televising the event immediately cut away.

No, it's the part about it being a surprise to everyone in attendance. In the past he's said that at least half the people were there to see he and Ed jam. So was it a surprise, cloak and dagger event, or was it something planned well in advance? I tend to believe the latter - I honestly don't know - but during the broadcast Sammy says he read in the newspaper that he and Ed were going to play together. This apparently was news to him, so he called up Eddie and they performed. They were also interviewed together by MTV the day of the show.

It may seem like a minor detail, but with this band, it's those details that are so aggravating. Dave does the same thing; interviewed on Howard Stern, he said the song that has "I like the way the line runs up the back of your stocking" in it was "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love." It's either laziness, forgetfulness or revisionist. And I've never seen a band do it like VH. Ed is the worst at it, too many incidents to list. And as a writer like I am, I tend to stick to the facts, so when reporting on and writing about this band, as I have done dozens of times, it's like sifting through the proverbial haystack to find the truth.

I remember hearing that one on Stern show and laughing.. I think that is just forgetfulness w Dave. How can he not remember??! ;-) But that was at a time when some of those songs weren't being played by him I suppose.

Well, he does have a penchant for forgetting the words as we all know.

Oh that's right, I think I remember hearing a bootleg of Wild Thing from Farm Aid.

Still it was like a 4 hour drive for my buddy to get to the place and he had to sit through all those country acts (I think Bon Jovi played too and he HATES Bon Jovi hahah) all to hear a couple songs? what a psycho
