Default Random DLR stuff that doesn't deserve a thread ...

    9/2/2015

    Steve Vai
    Hey Folks, Steve here,
At least once every 1-2 years Billy Sheehan, Greg Bissonette, Bret Tuggle and myself get together for some Indian food.
We made up the nucleus of the David Lee Roth Band on the Eat em and Smile tour.

Those days hold some of my fondest memories and meeting, playing and touring with these guys in the past has been a treasured life experience. We had absolutely the best time anyone can have on a tour and we love getting together and reminiscing. Total nostalgic hernia in-between the Naan and curry.

Whenever Iím with these guys itís like a past family that is re-united. Unfortunately Brett could not make this outing we had the other night but was toasted.

The Power trio of the three of us in this photo was a dynamic force in the day and the energy level that came off the stage when we were in the zone was truly stuff that arena rock dreams are made of.
Iím so deeply grateful to have these guys in my life then and now.

Make the best of every situation and you will enjoy and be grateful for it when remembering your past in the future, even though it all only happens in the now.

    Enjoy
    -S

Yep, Marcus was great. A long time, loyal player for Buddy's bands.

I'm guessing this thread didn't take off as intended?

Well, he isn't doing anything besides the podcast (that we know about), and we have a thread for that.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Came across this rare interview today. DLR circa 1993:

Aside from the drug bust footage, I've never seen anything from him that year. Pretty cool, right before he chopped off the hair.

Incidentally, did any of you ever notice that 1994 was the year he "changed?" The new octave, the ear-to-ear grins, the extra enthusiasm? He wasn't like that in this video or during the ALAE era. Wonder what happened to him that year? I mean he's still Diamond Dave through-and-through and the coolest motherfucker on the planet, but in '94 he was different and has been that way ever since.

if it's so great for the 3 of them why did they ever quit? Especially Sheehan? He cited "musical differences" but then went on to Mr. Big? What's the real story?

Vai is a solo artist, he was using Roth as a launching pad, which is fine. He got a huge payday from Whitesnake, and then he has gone his own way to do what he wanted artistically.

I think they just look back on it as "wow, was that fun", but that type of rock lifestyle isn't for everybody, at least not for a long time. Cocaine, booze and whores every night, I think most people get tired of that.

DLR obviously didn't for a long time after that, but at least for Vai, I don't think he was interested in that long term.

Sheehan has said before that he felt betrayed a little bit by DLR, that when they started it, it was DLR and Billy, and by the time Skyscraper came around, DLR had pretty much cut Billy out and was partnering with Vai on the musical direction.

    Just spit-balling.

Dave should have realized the talent level he had and made it a band instead of a solo project with hired hands.

He could have split it 40-20-20-20 or something like that, but I am sure after VH, that was the last thing on his mind.
