Default Van Halen II vs. OU812, song by song comparison

The second offering with each singer.

You're No Good vs. Mine All Mine - Mine All Mine Arguably Sammy's best lyrics vs. a somewhat bland cover song.
Dance The Night Away vs. When It's Love - Dance The Night Away When's It's Love is one of the better keyboard-driven Hagar tunes, but I'll give the edge to Dave here.
Somebody Get Me A Doctor vs. A.F.U. - Somebody Get Me A Doctor This might have been closer if the production on OU812 had been better.
Bottoms Up vs. Cabo Wabo - Bottoms Up
Outta Love Again vs. Source of Infection - Source of Infection
Light Up The Sky vs. Feels So Good Light Up The Sky I like Feels So Good, but this wasn't close.
Spanish Fly vs. Finish What Ya Started - Finish What Ya Started
D.O.A. vs. Black And Blue - D.O.A. Bad matchup for B&B
Women In Love vs. Sucker In a 3-Piece - Women In Love
Beautiful Girls vs. A APolitical Blues - Beautiful Girls Ah, yeah.

    7-3 Van Halen II

I appreciate these kinds of threads but c'mon...

The 6 pack is going to win every time.

I grew up with Sam era but it's no contest imo. There's always one or two but who has the balls to admit that OU812 beats out VHII?

I think F.U.C.K. might hold it's own against some of the Dave-era albums, but it has more songs than any from the 6-pack (unless you count the intros on Diver Down).

Besides, I think a better way to do it would be to rank the songs on each album, then compare the albums in the order the songs were ranked.

While we are at it, lets compare Blizzard of Oz vs No Rest for the Wicked.
    Led Zeppelin vs The Firm
The Empire Strikes Back vs Attack of the Clones

Sorry for making a joke but any thread where Source of Infection wins out vs any VH song outside of Up For Breakfast, Its About Time, Loss of Control and the entire VH3 album outside of Without You, well not going to take it seriously.

Outta Love Again losing to that is like Meryl Streep losing out to to Kristen Stewart for Best Actress

I do. It blows Van Halen II away.

When someone actually chooses "Source" over "Outta....."

That pretty much tells me all i need to know.

OU812 vs. VHII, is like a late 80's Foreigner album vs. Led Zeppelin I.

VHII is an inspired, young, raw band changing the hard rock game in the late 70's.
OU812 is a more tired, jaded band focusing on adult contemporary radio.

Add to that, no one can touch Roth circa 79-84, imo.
The guy was multi dimensional in his approach, bringing the songs to life.

Lol, it seems like we could get some drama in these threads, but here goes:

You're No Good-Mine All Mine...You're No Good. I always loved this cover, great riff by Ed, an even better solo, and some of the best guitar/vocal call and response ever laid down on a recording. MAM has great everything, but it's just a bad matchup here.

DTNA-When It's Love...DTNA. Not even close. A perfect power pop rock song vs a typical late 80s power ballad, although a perfect late 80s power ballad to be sure. But those annoying "nah nah nahs" at the end...

SGMAD-AFU...SGMAD. Too much classic, young and hungry CVH intensity, but AFU is one of my favorite Sam era songs.

Bottoms Up-Cabo Wabo...Bottoms Up. Cabo has a great intro riff and solo, but BU has those and a lot more.

Outta Love Again-SOI...OLA in a blowout. Musically, SOI is cool, but...

Light Up The Sky-FSG...Lol LUTS lights it up in the easiest matchup.

Spanish Fly-FWYS...Spanish Fly. I'll take Ed showing classical chops over his chicken picking, but FWYS is a cool song.

DOA-Black And Blue...Black And Blue is DOA against this, the outro alone gives DOA the win.

Women In Love-Sucker In A 3 Piece...WIL. Ugh this is closer than what many would think. My favorite track on OU812, but the intro and vocals on WIL are just too much.

Beautiful Girls-A Apolitical Blues...BG. The worst song on II vs kind of a cool idea for a cover, but singing the blues just isn't in Sam's wheelhouse.

A shutout for II, but it seems closer than that to be honest.
