Default Women And Children First vs Fair Warning, song by song ...

The two iconic albums right in the middle of the Classic 6-Pack. Which album do you prefer? Let's put the songs up against each other by their orders on the albums (omitting the instrumentals "Tora! Tora!" and "Sunday Afternoon In The Park" and the hidden track "Growth") Here we go ...

And The Cradle Will Rock vs Mean Street - Mean Street
Everybody Wants Some!! vs Dirty Movies - Everybody Wants Some!
    Fools vs Sinner's Swing! - Sinner's Swing!
Romeo Delight vs Hear About It Later - Hear About It Later (This one was REALLY close)
Loss of Control vs Unchained - Unchained
Take Your Whiskey Home vs Push Comes To Shove - Take Your Whiskey Home
Could This Be Magic? vs So This Is Love? - So This Is Love?
In A simple Rhyme vs One Foot Out The Door - In A Simple Rhyme

    Fair Warning wins 5-3
"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

Even more lopsided for me. 7-1 in favor of FW. Take Your Whiskey is the only one that wins its matchup. Dirty Movies over Everybody Wants Some easy here. I never cared that much for EWS. The riff bores me a little and the distorted lead vocal bothers me. Sounds sloppy or lazy. They couldn't even get the little break right when Dave starts "I like..."

I'm counting Tora Tora and Sunday Afternoon as part of the songs they are attached to so that puts One Foot/Sunday Afternoon way out in front of Simple Rhyme for the solo by itself. That might be Eddie's most attitude filled solo ever.

I think the little imperfections in "Everybody Wants Some" just add to the song. I love the intro, the verses, the breakdown and the ending. It's my favorite from "WACF".

I agree with you about the solo on "One Foot Out The Door". However, IMO, "In A Simple Rhyme" is just a much better song.

I have to say that I am surprised that Hear About it Later is beating out Romeo Delight. That song defines Women and Children First and may be second only to Unchained in the early Van Halen catalog. Hear About it Later is just not even in the same league for me.

6-2 for WACF. But RD over HAIL and LOC over Unchained cannot get any closer.

EWS, RD, LOC, IASR, MS, HAIL, and Unchained are all in my top 10 of all time. Fools and "Dirty Movies" are easily in the top 20.

    Never cared for EWS.

In fact, I always skip it.

How anybody can "skip this song" is completely beyond me ...

Dave's Tarzan impression and his squeals after every line in the chorus just turn me completely off of this song. I love the opening lyrics, but I just can't stick around for this one. Romeo Delight is waiting on me.
