    Default How do you feel....

About Ed hawking every product possible?

I know albums don't sell anymore and he wants to generate revenue (or stay relevant?) but it leaves a bit of a sour taste when he spent his glory years refusing to authorise striped guitar production, issuing cease and desist orders to anyone who dared sell copies. He could have had all the endorsments in the world but he kept it simple. Now, though, you can't move for striped replicas, signature models, amps, flangers, phasers, strings - and now trainers!

I should be happy because I now have my own Bumblebee but still. He didn't want to know when he was on top of the world, with companies chasing him, albums going platinum and fans salivating over him but the moment all that dries up he turns his back on his morals.

Ed was guarding his secrets to stay on top---I don't know about the rest of it. But, I am damn glad the Wolfgang guitars are out there. They really helped me through a burn out period.

Honestly, who cares? People were begging for years to be able to play the guitars, amps, pickups, etc. that EVH played. He is simply making it available to them, and the fact that so many people buy means that there is demand for it. No one is being forced to buy anything. I will say, though, that if people are paying a lot of money it should be a quality product and worth the money. As far as I know EVH products generally get rave reviews and don't have too many quality control issues. Some of the EVH stuff does seem overpriced though, which to me, is a problem. For example, Fender charges $25,000 for a Frankenstrat replica that isn't very accurate and a more accurate replica could be bought from a hobby builder for $1000-2000.

I don't have a problem with it. More power to him. If I could make money selling potatoes with the name sickman written on them I would!

The greatest rock guitarist ever shouldn't be freely allowed to offer a range of guitar products?

    What?

Anybody and Everybody are allowed to offer a line of guitar products to the buying public... in 2015 we happily live in a free economy...

Are you being purposefully obstinate or did you just not read the OP properly?
There was never any mention of anyone not being allowed to sell.

Ed can do whatever HE wants to nowadays AND/OR in the past at any point in time... it has nothing to do with us... there is no reason to have any "sour taste" as you say, because it's simply a business venture that he would choose to partake in.

To be upset that another person didn't start a business that you or I wanted to happen is ridiculous... it's 100% their call to start it.

Maybe he was uncomfortable with the logistics and other business details back in 1982 and wasn't ready yet... who knows... does it matter???

Flip flops from the world's greatest guitarist? Not so much... even though I did buy a pair! Haha.

To answer the OP, I'm okay with Ed's marketing over the last several years. He was guarded and secretive so very long, that's it's a neat thing to be able to buy his brand stuff now. EVH & the stripes ARE a brand. He's come to embrace that pretty much to the point of exploiting it. But hey, if there wasn't a demand for it, he wouldn't be in business.

    Exploiting it???

I really don't think so... that's being a little harsh...

The visual look of the stripes on his guitars is maybe the most iconic musical instrument graphic design in history.

His main business is selling musical instruments and their support products... the stripes are sold on other smaller products just for the express purpose of STRENGTHENING brand awareness... it's marketing 101 to just play up that graphic ID.

You still don't get it. Of course it has nothing to do with us but we can stlll comment. It's not that he chose to partake in a business venture but that he did a complete 180 and then some. And all when VH were off the map for two decades - which not only appears cynical but also strange considering his relevance was at an all-time low.

There is no upset that he didn't start selling three decades earlier. If there was my question would be 'do you wish Ed started his EVH line 30 years ago' instead of 'what do you think of his about turn?'. Instead of arguing the OP and constantly barking up the wrong tree why don't you just answer the question like the others have?

It's not a hard concept. A question is asked to canvass opinion and you answer it.

Robbie, you nail it again. I agree that it's neat to be able to buy them. It's just his aout turn and the timing of it.
And of course it's exploiting the marketplace. That is what business does.
