Um a lot of people wear ear plugs at concerts. And no they're not pussies. I've destroyed my ears with loud music and playing in bands without them. That doesn't make me cool, it makes me stupid.

Yeah, I gotta imagine it's pretty loud inside the pavillions. I would wear them, if needed.

Well - it actually sounds much more clear with ear plugs... I like the Hearos from Sam Ash... cheap but effective.

Secondly... I have way too many friends with tinitus and as a former rock guitarist myself... I'd like to live without the permanent damage...

I'll never forget the ringing I endured after seeing Roger Daltry on New Years Eve 1985 at Madison Square Garden... days of ringing... just sucked and too old for that shit now...

Absolutely better safe than sorry I usually pick a seat in the center back of the venue to see and hear the full stage production which you can't always get an appreciation for if you're right up front.

I remember VH in 1984 I was right there front row the volume was so freaking unbelievably loud there were times I wasn't sure what song they were playing.

I have distinct vivid memory of Dave doing the kick over Mike's head right in front of me by that middle stage extension but the overwhelming heat of the lights and being squished against the barrier was way too intense for me to handle so I retreated from my front row spot back a few rows and found it far for comfortable and had a much better view of the full stage and the overall sound and ambiance was much better.

I don't even try to get front row for shows nowadays I much prefer being in the center back to get the full view and sound of the stage production.

The outdoor shows are not nearly as loud as the arena shows.

Either way it's the treble that destroys your ears and wearing earplugs takes the treble out.

I wore simple orange earplugs at both shows this tour and was just fine afterwards.

Most people really don't know that you can hear everything better with ear plugs in.

VH shows have always been way too much for my ears. It was the 5150 tour that caused my tinnitus at 14 years old. Did I learn? Nope. Kept going to shows without wearing plugs until I finally said "fuck that"!!

I don't care if it's Merle Haggard, Tom Jones, or Engelbert Humperdinck...I wear ear plugs.

I (and the rest of my family) probably should've worn earplugs at the St. Louis show... We were kinda close to one of the PA speakers near the lawn. Either way, great night.

I was at the Toronto show and didn't think it was that loud compared to other shows at the same venue and I usually sit in the same area

There are multiple dB apps for iPhone. I always use them out of curiosity. I haven't been to a show yet this tour but I always use ear plugs and take them out intermittently to hear a song I want more clearly. At 95 dB, which vh (and even Billy Joel most recently ) routinely hit closer to the stage ,less than an hour is considered 'safe'; but there is no safe. Cochlear hair cells are dying off with each exposure. There are going to be a whole lot of deaf 70 year olds in the next 30 years.
