That is cool to hear, because it's such a deep cut and also a kick ass powerful song.
The solo has those symmetrical 1-2-4 finger patterns that Eddie is known for. I LOVE the hybrid picked/legato way that Ed phrases those licks.

It's nice to see & hear his left hand doing those old gunslinger type of solos again. Tapping is cool, yet Ed's other bag of tricks is equally dazzling.

Yep, his other bag of tricks(legato runs) is more dazzling. It's impressive when he can still pull out the heavy artillery....accurately. Would love to hear him take a stab at the Fools intro shredfest.

Jesus, that performance of Dirty Movies is about the best thing I've ever heard VH play. Wolf's bass breakdown is stunning and Eddie and Alex are perfect. Wow is that good. The band has never sounded better. Ed's tone is killer this tour, so is Al's.

You know what's funny about the tapping?

On Van Halen which is considered to be the groundbreaking guitar album, there's only two songs with tapping on it - YRGM and I'm The One (I'm not counting Eruption as a song in the traditional sense).

So most of Ed's playing on that album is "traditional" in the sense that his right hand stays off the fretboard. Seems the tapping got a lot more attention than it deserves, and his regular pick playing a lot less.

That said, there's nothing "regular" about his pick playing.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

Lol, I wouldn't care if Dave and Wolf butchered the chorus, I'd LOVE it if they ripped in to my favorite track on the debut!

That sound check sounded AWESOME!!!! This is the Van Halen that I am a fan of. They sound so good ! Can you imagine what this band could sound like now with a decent singer?

What was cool about II, was the first song featured him tapping up the scales,
where the first was just one string ideas.

He doesn't tap much on II either, You're no good, a couple notes in Bottom's up.
    Spanish Fly, of course.

    WACF features even less tapping.
It's almost like EVH the "Club Days."

FW is when he really utilized it in trademark phrasing (Sinners swing, Push, One foot, HAIL)

No. I can't imagine this band playing these songs with any other singer.

Other than the Romeo Delight intro and the little lick in "Cradle" is there any tapping on WACF?

I swear it gets so much attention I guess because it is non conventional, but there is so much more that makes EVH a phenomenal player. The tapping is like the icing on the cake.
