I can see the kids thinking it might be a funny thing to do, but the "adults" should know better...

It's narcissism but it's more that we've lost the meaning of true sacrifice.

We go into hysterics if the internet suddenly goes out. Mankind has become fat, lazy, and complacent because the world is a relatively easy place to navigate...at least in Western prosperous countries.

This has given birth to the self-absorbed "selfie" generation. We're doomed.

We've lost it because we've never had to sacrifice. We're spoiled. We have too much and we now argue about the levels of "too much".

That's really sad. What's even more disappointing is that in the article she says she saw about a hundred people doing the same thing. Unbelievable.

It wouldn't even occur to me to wade or even dip my toe in the water at such a thing, but to ignore the signs clearly asking people not to do it takes a special kind of asshole.

My point is that they shouldn't even need signs. I look at this like someone putting up a sign that says: "Please don't crap on the sidewalk."

    It should go without saying.

with tourist type places i get why the signs are needed. The fountain culture might be different in other nations. But I'm guessing these aren't people from other cultures. They're just a-holes.

I've never been to Washington DC, so I don't know the answer: Do they allow people to do this in the Reflecting Pool at the Washington Monument? I was always under the impression that it was off limits...unless you're Forrest Gump and you see Jenny, of course.

If this was allowed other places I might be able to understand people just being oblivious.

    HA-HA!

When I found that pic, I read something about individuals being allowed to "soak their feet" in the WWII memorial but nothing else...wading, splashing, etc. I can't believe that soaking your feet would be allowed or even that you would want to do it.
