Default Has anyone done any mods to their EVH 100w head?

My SLO is in the shop this week, so I've been "roughing it" with my EVH 100w (non-Stealth). I try to err on the side of less gain than I really want, as band recordings always make me think I'm using more gain than I need to, even when I think it sounds good as I'm playing it. Anyway, last night I started thinking that the blue channel, when gain is dimed, is still a tad too tame. And I'll never use distortion pedal to boost it. Check out the bottom of this thread.

Looks like there is a very easy and reversible way to increase the gain on blue. Now I'm wondering if there's also an easy or affordable way to make the 100w sound more like the Stealth too. Anyone know more about this or have you done it?

I know you post on TGP, and one of the 5150III threads over there has a breakdown of Stealth mods found so far. Howard even confirmed most of them, but admitted that not all had been found yet.

Oh, I don't think I've seen that one yet. There is a real long one on the 50w. Will do a search on the Stealth.

Just found this. I don't think I want to try adding the resonance control knobs, as the 100w chassis is not built for them and I don't know that I want to go that deep. But modding the blue channel to get more gain and compression sounds feasible.

didn't you just get the 100s, were raving about it, and selling the 50w which you loved? now you are back to the 100w and want to change that? my man, it seems to me that you should use the 50w and have that voodoo mod done to it to fix the volume issue and be done with it. seriously.

I am a restless soul, yes. I had the 100w at band practice for the first time yesterday, which is what made me start looking for a little more gain. If I send my 50w out for the Voodoo mod, I will have far more into that amp than into my 100w. I'll clip the R26 resistor tonight and see how it runs at band practice on Wed., and then will go from there.

Ok, just clipped R26 and could barely tell any difference. When I got in there, it looked like it had already been done and then reversed again. This is no good. Will see how it sounds at band volume at practice on Wed. and go from there. With my 50w the SD Custom 78 in my Frankenstrat also sounded pretty tame until at band volume. So it might just need to be cranked.

I know you said you don't want to use a distortion pedal on the blue channel but an OD set as a clean boost is really a no brainier . I'm using a TC Spark boost and MXR Modified OD on the blue channel and it works really good. Gain all the way off and vol, treb and bass set to taste
