    Default Ax40 Wiring Problem

I took out the Peavey Wolf pickup I had in my Ax40 to use in something else and have tried to reinstall the original pickup. Whenever the bridge or middle position is selected there is a loud just feedback noise that is always there if I'm not actively playing a note. I have never had this problem on any of my other guitars. I think I'm missing something stupid that I hope you other owners can help me out with.

Ok, first, get rid of that piece of shit pot and get a DiMarzio or CTS pot. That board is a hunk of crap.

Secondly, and I don't want to be insulting here, but it looks like somebody soldered that shit in with a fucking propane torch. The insulation on the wires looks like it's been through a fucking fire. It really needs to be cleaned up. You probably have some wires shorted or grounded on that board.

The switch that's in there is the same switch that's used on the Axis. I tried to clean it up but it didn't help so I'm going to try and require the whole thing when I get home from te Foreigner/KidRock concert I'm going to tonight or it will wait until tomorrow. Is the pot that comes stock in these really that bad?

Too late to edit, but the pickup that's causing problems is the top blue hot and red and bare ground.

I normally use Dimarzio 500k pots when doing stuff like that.
The AX40 guitars are a budget version (as you know), so I'm guessing that the electronic components are one area where they may have skimped on quality.

I would replace the switch with a switchcraft switch for sure, and put a different pot in it. The pot isn't terrible, but you will notice a difference in the audio taper and tone.

That's the switch that comes in the EBMM EVH/Axis.

It looks like there's a lot more going on with that switch than there should be. And one of those blue wires is toasty.

The blue "toasty" wire was for the neck pickup which worked just fine, it totally looks like the culprit though.

I'm going to open the back panel on my EBMM EVH when I get home and try and go off if that. The switch should be similar, but they did actually change the switch for the axis, no idea on the panel.

I'm just not a fan of those kind of switches with the board. I know EBMM uses them, but I don't think they are as good or reliable as a Switchcraft.
