Default Floyd Rose with/without sustain block shim

So, I figured I'd try a little sound experiments. I've read that Ed used to remove the sustain block shim from his Floyd Rose to get better sustain, resonance, harmonics, etc. I did 2 clips, one with the shim installed, and one without. I didn't really hear or feel any difference. Let me know what you guys think. Again, please excuse the playing. I don't know what the heck was going on with my hands the other day!

I never heard this before, but I do know that the early Floyds did not have the shims. John Suhr and Adam Reiver are big proponents of this theory that the shim is a "tone sucker" and they remove them.
I personally do not remove them because I cannot actually discern any real difference with or without. I believe optimum tone (and that is very subjective notion) is achieved through a combination of:
    -body wood
-the metal of the trem block (brass, titanium, steel, tungsten, copper, bronze, aluminum)
    -pick-up
    -the amplifier you are using

The only thing I ever noticed the one time I removed one of those shims was that the tension plate seemed to apply less tension to the fine tuner screws.

Yep, I'm not hearing any difference at all. I'm gonna put the shim back on my next string change.

All 5 of my Floyds are shim less. There is a difference.

Yes, can you describe the difference you experience? I honestly don't notice anything.
