Default OBAMA MOVING TO FORCE DIVERSITY ON RICH NEIGHBORHOODS

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is reporting that Obama is moving forward with threatened plans to force diversity on wealthier neighborhoods by using the federal governments influence to build housing for lower income families.

Claiming it is fulfilling a promise to create equal opportunity, HUD insisted its upcoming program was an effort to end deep-rooted segregation in higher income communities.

HUD is working with communities across the country to fulfill the promise of equal opportunity for all, the department said on Thursday. The proposed policy seeks to break down barriers to access to opportunity in communities supported by HUD funds.

HUD was immediately accused of trying to impose a socialist utopia throughout America, using the force of government and taxpayer money to do so.

American citizens and communities should be free to choose where they would like to live and not be subject to federal neighborhood engineering at the behest of an overreaching federal government, Representative Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ)80% (R, AZ) said upon the release of HUDs plans.

Gosar also said that Obama shouldnt be holding hostage grant monies aimed at community improvement based on its unrealistic utopian ideas of what every community should resemble.

Obamas government, though, claims that the new policy is only meant to end segregation and open opportunities for lower income families to live where they want to live.

However, the plan will certainly have several problematic outcomes, critics note.

For one, families employing federal subsides in section 8 housing wont be paying the property taxes that others in such communities pay meaning that they will be sending their kids to schools they didnt help pay for. This will increase the burden on local schools and on those actual taxpayers footing the bill.

Gosar warns that the main result will be that property values will naturally fall and that means property assessments will fall with them and that taxes will have to be raised to continue paying for local schools quite despite falling housing values.

    Then there is the crime.

Margery Turner, senior vice president at the left-leaning Urban Institute, insists that the new rule is a good one and says that children growing up in low income areas have less chance of succeeding in America because of crime and blighted neighborhoods.

Segregation is clearly a problem that is blocking upward mobility for children growing up today, she claimed.

But critics say that far from eliminating such problems, this program will merely import those same problems into the wealthier neighborhoods.

Others, such as Hans von Spakovsky, a fellow at the Heritage Foundation, point out that this is just another example of the Obama administration viewing every policy through a racial prism.

Finally there is the likelihood that further control on local housing rules will take power away from local voters and their governments and will create a situation where all housing is controlled by the central government in far away Washington DC.

Regardless, on Thursday HUD Secretary Julin Castro defended the program during a congressional hearing saying that the rule isnt just about affordable housing.

Its not just about affordable housing, its about good transit; its about access to good schools; its about all that, Castro insisted.

Many Congresspeople were skeptical, to say the least.

Republican Rep. Mia Love (R-UT)60%, Utahs first African American woman elected to Congress, criticized the program as one that would take power over housing out of the hands of local officials. Being a former mayor herself, Love had the experience from which to speak.

But Rep. Love also had serious reservations about the Obama administrations idea that the federal government could bring both diversity and prosperity to communities by fussing with housing policies.

I want to know some quick examples you have where the federal government has actually been able to diversify areas or end poverty in local areas where the local municipalities could not do that, Love asked.

as much as I hate how HUD housing programs created poverty and crime pockets thru out cities, this is more stupider and more dumber

spend the money on improving inner city schools, neighborhood policing, infrastructure improvement and demolition of blighted areas so that all those communities benefit.

This is beyond stupid to think it will work. Here is what will happen in real life: When well to do homeowners find out that a federal housing project is being started in their neighborhood, those well to do people will put their house up for sale the very next day.

Definition of insanity right here. And with your tax dollars and the printing press. Only way out of poverty is jobs and education. Of course that also means hard work. Segregation ended 50 some years ago.

In the UK, all new housing developments over a certain size have to incorporate an 'affordable housing' component. In places like London, this is essential as, otherwise, key workers (like teachers, police, nurses, fire-fighters, etc) can't afford to live or work in those areas - meaning that the wealthy can't access the services for which they pay their taxes. Not sure if this is the same sort of thing - but it works here. In fact, the provision of affordable housing is a key element for all the political parties' manifestos. Mind you, you have to remember that the UK is incredibly expensive housing-wise, with land being in such short supply.

This type of "Affordable Housing" mandate is a guise for community destruction. I saw it happen, 35 years ago, in the neighborhood I grew up in (Westview Park in Baltimore County). Crime skyrocketed. House values decreased. The local mall became known as "murder mall." The hand of big government is like a plague.

Liberals will lower the standards of living for everyone.

They realize that you can't run forever.

You know the cities would love to ship out these lower class criminals out of the cities so that they can claim that they have cleaned up their cities.

    Typical.

Being poor doesn't mean one's automatically a "criminal".

Being a part of the lower class doesn't equate to being a welfare queen or convict.

There are millions of hard working people, who can't afford good housing. Should they all just be segregated to ghettos?

This program is a good thing. It helps those, who are law abiding and just want to raise their families in good neighborhoods. This has worked elsewhere but of course, in the States, it's always "WAH, PROPERTY VALUES WILL GO DOWN...WAH! Pfft...

Translation: keep the minorities out of our neighborhoods.

I do think that sometimes it might be helpful to look at other nations who have implemented similar schemes (successfully) before launching into 'the sky is falling' mode.

The fact is that wealthy people DO rely on various, less well-paid workers (and professionals) to maintain their standard of living. I mentioned teachers, nurses, police, firefighters - but even shop-workers, kitchen staff, rubbish collectors - all sorts - are essential! Without them, those more well-off in society would soon be squealing about the lack of services in their neck of the woods - so affordable housing really is a necessity - not just to improve the prospects / living standards of those on lower incomes, but to maintain those of people on higher ones!

As CC said, not everyone on a low income is a criminal or ne'er do well (generally, from experience over here, the gang-members and drug addicts aren't really interested in moving anyway)...And, if the US adopts a model similar to the one here, I think it's 20% of all new homes have to be 'affordable' - so posh areas won't become over-run with 'scum'.

You know better than that, Chris. We already have programs where counites receive federal dollars to have low income housing in their districts. Apparently, to this divisive administration that is not enough. If you work hard and are successful enough to purchase into a decent neighborhood , why shouldn't you be able to enjoy that? And Evhintexas is right, there are Hispanics and other minorities who have a big problem with this already.

Btw, I don't know about Nevada, but I certainly don't know any firemen who are hurting for cash. In fact, a lot of them live in those neighborhoods that will be affected by this idiotic regulation.

The funny thing about this whole "keep minorities out" is bull shit. You know who make a lot of money? Indians, Asians and yes some African Americans. Those who have professional careers and can afford "gasp" a house for 300k (Cleveland prices) and want to move into a good school district for their kids. I don't live in one of those neighborhoods but have friends who do and guess what? You see an Indian couple here. An Asian couple there. Some Latino's there. A black family here. Its fine. You don't have rich WASPS burning crosses or what not.

    Its about money. Not color.

Where you have issues are in lower to middle class white districts. Those are where typically more blue collar workers are going to reside who typically are less educated. The upper middle to rich class certainly harbor people who dont' like people of color however they its more to do with their income than anything else. Why do you think a soccer mom isn't going to shop at Wal Mart? A lot of poor whites go to Wal Mart. More than blacks. Its about status.

Busing sure in the hell didn't work. This won't work either.

If a person of low income needs inspiration from living next to a gated community to improve their quality of life, then all you are doing is telling them materialism is all you need.

You want to improve peoples lives. Teach them to wear a condom. Teach them to go to school. Teach them to be a fucking father.
