I'm in, entire family, VIP 2nd roll.

does anyone know if my 2 kids (6 & 8, both with tickets) will have any kind of trouble to get in?

I'm thinking about making a run out for this one rather than sitting around waiting for the Bowl dates in October. I just went on live nation and it looks like the show has more empty seats than sold! Maybe they have too many SoCal engagements lined up?

Anyway, since it's last minute I may go solo so if you see a lonely dad rocker losing his shit to deep cuts that's me.
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

I bough tix. A 90 minute drive to see them early in the tour for $45 is totally worth it. Hell yeah!

That was the last place I saw VH with Sam in October 1995. It's also the same place where they held the US Festival in May 1983.

I'm passing on San Manuel and I'll see them at Irvine Meadows on Tuesday night.

Brett, are you going to make the trek from the valley to the OC?

Yeah, I agree. It says something when I can pass on a front row ticket to one of my favorite bands because of the place they're playing at.

What's wrong with it? i've only been once back in '02 and didn't have any memories of it good or bad.

I saw the '83 US Festival there, all three days, camping dealing with the heat, dirt etc. There wasn't an actual outdoor shed at the time, it was just a huge grass and dirt bowl shaped field that the promoters built a big festival stage at the bottom slope. Staying shitfaced the whole weekend definitely smoothed over a lot of the rough spots but I was also in my early 20's with a group of like-minded people. So it was fun.

FF to the late 90's when Devore (that's what I'm going to stick to called it as they changed the name of the shed a few times) was now an actual amphitheater. Horrible place to get in and out of, they stack parked cars out on the grassy area so you had to wait for hours to get out and get back on the highway. It seemed like *everyone* was white trash hillbilly Coors swillin' boneheads. Fights broke out everywhere no matter who was playing, lot of car vandalism in the parking... field. The last two shows I saw there was Van Halen in '98 on the 4th of July and the Roth/Hagar show in '02 which was the last straw. Went back to my car after the show and someone had slashed tires on about a dozen cars skipping mine and another at the end of our row. There's just a really bad vibe inland SoCal seems to have, meth-heads, drunks and a lot of violence.

I'll take Irvine any day of the week.
