Default CVH Songs Sammy could pull off

There has been a lot of chatter around what Sammy era VH songs Dave could pull off. I'm not sure Sammy could actually pull off more than a hand full of CVH songs IMHO:

Songs I think Sammy would be great on (I've listed what I think Sammy could swing):
    VH I
SIDE 1: Ice Cream Man (but Dave owns that one)
    SIDE 2: RWTD, YRGM, ATBL

    VH II
    SIDE 1: YNG, DTNA
SIDE 2: N/A (I don't think Sammy could pull any of these songs off DLR signature)

    Women And Children First
SIDE 1: (I don't think Sammy could pull any of these songs off, DLR signature)
    SIDE 2: same as above

    Fair Warning
SIDE 1I don't think Sammy could pull any of these songs off, DLR signature)
    SIDE 2: Unchained

    Diver Down
    SIDE 1: WHATGTG, PW
    SIDE 2: DITS, HT

    1984
    SIDE 1: Jump
SIDE 2: (I don't think Sammy could pull any of these songs off, DLR signature)

Although, Sammy has higher range than Dave, you cannot deny the swagger and attitude Dave brought to the original line up.,

    Thoughts?

Sammy could "pull off" most of them. Gary sang some of the old catalog, and did fine with it. If he can, Sam can. Whether Sam WOULD, that's a different question.

If Sam were back, which IMO will never happen, people don't want to hear him singing I'm The One. They'll want all those 13 #1 hits VH had with him...the ones that got the band the record for most Mainstream Rock #1's. That takes up a good bit of a set list right there. He's playing about 17 songs a set, according to what I've read, so that'd leave about 4-5 more songs. What Dave songs will they choose? You know Jump, Panama, ATBL, YRGM will be in there, and that's about it. Dude is almost 70. His voice is still really good for his age, but he can't be singing 3 hour shows on a regular basis now.

If the impossible happened and they all kissed and made up, and Dave left, that's pretty much what would happen, as far as a setlist. Their #1's, the bigger Dave songs, and maybe a Zep song or I Can't Drive 55.

I know I wouldn't care if Sam sang the old stuff or not if I was one who was going to see that show. I just saw Dave sing all that stuff the last few tours. Why would I want to hear Sam sing that, and not the songs that were done originally with him? If I want to hear the Dave catalog, give me Dave. I don't listen to Atomic Punk and think "I'd sure like to hear Sam cover this one" any more than I listen to Space Station #5 and think "I bet it'd be cool if Dave did this song".

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

"Ice Cream Man" is as signature Dave as it gets. Looks like you picked all covers and ones he's already done outside of DTNA. Aside from the ones he's done before already and aside from covers, I'd say the following are ones he could really do justice to the best:

    OF
    DTNA
SGMAD (well, he kinda already did that one with Mike)
    EWS
    DDL

Although like Pacfanweb said, I think he could sing anything when it comes down to it.

I can't picture him singing any of this stuff, like i can't picture Roth singing Hagar stuff.

The one tune i did think could work for Sam, was "Drop dead legs."
If he sang it in his solo voice, more relaxed & paced.

Someone mentioned in another thread how "Drop Dead Legs" is very similar in its laid back styling and pacing to "Black And Blue". I agree.

Default CVH Songs Sammy could pull off

I would have no interest in hearing Sam sing any of them honestly. He did the ones he felt comfortable doing. He could do them all but they don't sound right for him, much like Dave can't sing Sam's stuff.

I would say none of them. It would be like someone singing for Mick Jagger in the Stones. I'm sure a lot of singers could "pull it off"....but it just wouldn't work. I can sing a lot of songs by a lot of bands...I'm "pulling it off" but I'll never be able to really do it justice.

Like when I hear Brian Johnson sing one of Bon Scott's songs....just not the same. Sure he can "pull it off". Bon had a unique personality. There is only one David Lee Roth...I'm pretty sure there is no one currently on this planet who can sing those songs like he did. (including Dave)

I think they chorus of DOA would sound pretty good with Sam and Mike.

I definitely would NOT want to hear Sam sing Ice Cream Man.

Hagar would sound ridiculous attempting most DLR songs. however call me mad but I actually think Romeo Delight and Hot For Teacher are not completely out of his range? and maybe even Top Jimmy, if you think of his verses on Big Bad Money they're not a trillion miles away

overall dave was too much of an enigma to be imitated, and hagar is way more of a 'I'm the rock singer' type guy (albeit a great one)

Sam could sing any VH song....none of it is out of his range. Its just a matter of how many would like it, how many would or would not like the style he sang them in...and the millions of other criticisms that people come up with because the song isnt being sung by their favorite guy. When you say he couldnt "pull it off" what you are really saying is , no matter what it sounded like, you wouldnt like it. Personally, I say, how in the world could you ever know unless you actually hear him try? And this we know is probably never going to happen, given Ed's apparent hatred for him and Sam not wanting to sing a lot of Dave stuff. Given a choice, personally.....I would wish these guys could all bury the hatchet, acknowledge each other like adults....and do a tour where Sam sings Sam stuff and Dave sings Dave stuff....problem solved.

He might be done in VH but at near 70 he sure sings a lot better than Dave.

And I don't know what future there really is besides these greatest hits tours.

I agree but his stint in VH will not be held in the same regard. His albums just don't stand the test of time. Dave is where he rightfully belongs, as lead singer in VH. That being said, I enjoyed Sam in VH.
