I'd put VH and GnR at 1&2.

But of course, a baby boomer genenation album was going to get the top spot. Sigh...

Shit, how do you have a problem with either Zeppelin or Jimi in those spots? I mean, Jimi, whether you like it or not, was revolutionary. Zeppelin, well, it's fuckin' LED ZEPPELIN.

Maybe that both of their later works (even the 2nd albums) are preferred ?

Call me crazy, but I think both Zeppelin's and Sabbath's debuts are highly overrated. They both have places where they're very slow and drag on, and that's not really my cup of tea.

Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti are all absolutely epic albums. Led Zeppelin III, Houses of The Holy, Presence and In Through The Out Door don't exactly suck either.

My personal favorite from their debut album ...

I've never been a fan of Ozzy era Sabbath, but I couldn't disagree with you more about Zeppelin.

I wouldn't have GnR ahead of VH, but not a bad list overall.

It's hard for me to put Led Zeppelin or Please Please Me on the list as I didn't hear those albums until I'd heard better works by both bands, where as Boston, Van Halen, The Cars and Foreigner pretty much had me from day 1, and even though I wasn't into G 'N F'n R right from the get-go, once I did catch on, I could see Appetite For Destruction for the masterpiece that it is. I might also include Pronounced 'leh-'nerd 'skin-nerd, KISS and Vivid by Living Colour, maybe Outlandos D'Amour by the Police and The Clash, even Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables by the Dead Kennedys, though I guess that's not really classic rock!

And in the case of England's Newest Hitmakers, that's their first American release, and although it only differs from The Rolling Stones by one track, I still wouldn't count it. Similar situation with High Voltage by AC/DC. Plus the Stones debut (and to some extent AC/DC's American debut) suffers from the same hindsight that the Beatles' and Led Zeppelin's debuts do.

I just can't put the Beatles or Stones in here. Those records just aren't that good.

This is tough. There's more than ten. All mentioned so far are worthy.

    1. Van Halen - Van Halen
    2. Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
    3. The Cars - The Cars
    4. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
    5. Pretenders - Pretenders
    6. Bad Company - Bad Company
    7. Appetite For Destruction - Guns N Roses
    8. Pearl Jam - Ten
    9. The Doors - The Doors
    10. The Ramones - The Ramones

I really dig the Blondie debut, too.

Some pretty darn good debut albums!!

Van Halen and Guns & Roses are two of my faves. Of course LZ too.
