    Default Last Days Of Letterman

Funny set....then a great TV moment. Great human moment. Right from the heart.

Always loved Norm M.'s quirky sense of humor . Great talent IMO.
Letterman is ... a legend . Literally in a class by himself .

    I'll miss him .

saw the letterman show live once when he was on NBC had to sneak in and sleep in a hallway at 30 Rock (there were about 15 of us waiting to get standby tickets and we slipped in a door as they were moving a piano out. Strangely security guards just looked the other way, in fact, from time to time they would come down the hallway to check on us and see if we needed anything

damn I'm going to miss that show. I hope we haven't seen the last of him. Would be great to see him do things on 60 minutes or CBS Sunday Morning or even their lame morning news show

I appreciate what Letterman has done, the influence he's had, and his interviewing skills are excellent, but much of the show has been phoned in for awhile now, and it was about time it ended. Norm's set was great, and was one of the few genuine displays of emotion over Dave's retirement. Like Daisy, I would like to see him continue to do things, but I just have the feeling we're only going to see him when he shows up at Indy car races.

Letterman in the 80's was so good, loved all the goofy stuff he used to do, couldn't have cared less who the guests were.

I've always been a night owl since as far back as I can remember so I have been watching Letterman since the first Late Night show on February 1, 1982. I was a huge fan of Caddyshack and Stripes and tuned in basically to see Bill Murray. And I've been hooked ever since for over 33 years. Beginning this Thursday there will be a gaping hole in my late night evenings.

Thanks, Dave, for everything. You have kept me company, made me laugh many times over, and most importantly you taught me what it meant to be goofy. Goodnight, sir. We will all miss you.

They were the years I didn't get to see. He's been on in Australia since he moved to CBS and I have watched it since. Great show and he's had some great bands on it.

    Will miss watching him.

Me too, on both counts. What sucked was I had no one to talk about it with the next day. I was teen in HS and none of my friends watched it. It was too late for them. Luckily, I met a dude, in '82, in one of my classes. All thru HS we'd laugh about the show the day after. We even had people laughing who didn't watch the show.

I really loved the theme song back then, too. In it's raw form. They all really show cased on that song. Great musicians.

Early Letterman was a great variety show but devolved when politics were inserted. Happy retirement.

I was one of the only kids in fifth grade that would stay up every night to watch Johnny Carson and then Letterman on my 12 inch Sanyo black and white TV. I loved both shows but I will admit once Dave moved over to CBS I didn't watch as much. There was something about his show in the early years that was much more raw and low budget feeling that made it more entertaining. I'm happy for the success that he has had and wish him well in his retirement. Maybe he won't get that many speeding tickets now driving up RT 8 through CT!
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

That's too bad you missed those years. Some hilarious stuff.
As said, it was more low budget. The guests weren't always A list, neither were the bands, but it had a magic about it. It was a different NYC back then, too. That provided many laughs.

He's done well since the CBS move. I watched it once in awhile during that time. In recent years, like you said, mainly for the bands.

The early years were unsurpassed in my mind.

Remember when Chris Elliot would walk out, eating an ice cream cone without a shirt on?

Does anyone remember the old Russian guy (or of some similar Eastern bloc/Warsaw Pact origin), who used to be a somewhat frequent guest during the 80s, who would just sit there and rant angrily? I never even knew what he was talking about, but he was dead damn serious about it.

I also fondly remember and miss Calvert "Larry 'Bud' Melman" Deforest. And wouldn't it be great to have Teri Garr on the show one more time? I think Dave had a thing for her.

So many good times watching the Letterman show.
