Default TV Reporter Confronts Idiot guys hurling vulgarities at her

when did we become savages? Apparently this is a trend continent wide? Are you kidding me?

    http://www.citynews.ca/2015/05/11/ci...ile-reporting/

CityNews reporter Shauna Hunt confronted several young men who hurled vulgarities at her while covering a Toronto FC soccer game on Sunday.

The crude trend, which started in the United States, involves people bombarding live reporters and yelling “f**k her right in the p***y” into their microphones.

Hunt patiently endured several instances of the degrading phrase before confronting some of the perpetrators.

“Can I ask why you would want to do say something like that?” she asked one man.

“I feel like it’s quite substantial,” he responds.

Later she noticed several other men lurking behind her and asked if they were waiting to bombard her as well.

    They admitted that they were.

“You know I’m sick of this,” Hunt said. “I get this every single day, ten times a day…It’s disrespectful and degrading.”

“And If your mom had saw you talk like this?” she asked, ironically, on Mother’s Day.

“Oh my mom would die laughing, eventually,” he responded.

Hunt isn’t the only one who’s “sick” of the vulgarity.

Calgary police are prepared to press charges, sending a letter to broadcasters in the city that reads: “…We had a legal opinion obtained and have concluded this activity constitutes grounds for a charge and arrest.”

“Please report it to us as soon as possible so that we can follow up on it. I think if we collectively address this early, it may mitigate similar occurrences in the future.”

Calgary police say it violates section 175(1)(A) of the Criminal Code: Everyone commits an offence who “not being in a dwelling-house, causes a disturbance in or near a public place, (1) by fighting, screaming, shouting, swearing, singing or using insulting or obscene language.”

Several CityNews reporters have been on the receiving end of the so-called prank.

“What is it that makes them think that this is OK?” asked political specialist Cynthia Mulligan. “Because it’s a verbal assault. It just is.”

Breakfast Television’s Melanie Ng said it’s not only men who are guilty.

“We’re now starting to see not just guys, but women doing it and again of all ages. You’re seeing little girls and women in their 40s and 50s yelling in the background.”

And female reporters aren’t the only targets. Recently, CityNews’ Adrian Ghobrial got blindsided.

“For my female colleagues and female reporters and journalists across North America, it’s sexual harassment and it’s disgusting and needs to stop,” he said.

Toronto police say charges can indeed by laid, depending on the circumstances.

“I think there are a number of charges that could be laid,” said Meaghan Gray, Toronto police. “You could be looking at breach of the peace, or harassment, sexual harassment, mischief…”

one of these idiots was seen by his employer and.....

A Hydro One employee will be fired after he was identified as one of the men who hurled obscenities at CityNews reporter Shauna Hunt during Sunday’s Toronto FC game.

Hydro One tells CityNews the employee violated the company’s code of conduct

“Hydro one is taking steps to terminate the employee for violating our code of conduct,” said Hydro One’s Daffyd Roderick.

“Respect for all people is engrained in the code and in our values. We are committed to a work environment where discrimination or harassment of any type is met with zero tolerance.”

I would rate this more as "idiocy" than "savagery." And as long as we give it attention, it will continue and probably increase for a while. But then, just like that "frightening" knock-out game "trend," we will move on to something else. Probably equally stupid, or more stupid.

Why "confront" someone like this? Just ignore them. Report from somewhere else. Confronting them implies they are worthy of attention.

i think the confrontation is exactly what gets it to stop actually. Apparently this has been going on for a while and the station just got tired of it because it wasn't stopping. I bet that word of someone losing their job will help stop it. The next thing that'll make this stop is when someone who now knows about this cracks one of these idiots when they try it. Good on her for contronting these idiots.

It's definitely a worldwide trend...There's currently an investigation going on into similar incidents at UK football grounds. Female line officials and even ambulance workers who run onto the pitch to help injured players are seen as legitimate targets for the most vile abuse you've ever heard. Some instances were caught on film and the perpetrators are being charged - but they're just the thin end of the wedge, unfortunately.

It's not helped by the boss of football's premier league sending emails which refer to women in the game in a similarly derogatory fashion - and getting away with it.

Makes you despair, doesn't it? I don't envy you having daughters in this sort of climate, hun.

i often say that it's so easy being a guy in a relationship because the average guy is a complete moron so women are forced to grade us on a curve. Seeing stuff like this just confirms that position for me. My girls start karate soon. I want them to have the ability to kick one of these losers in the face.

Maybe. And hopefully. But more likely, in my experience, these "confrontations" only give the assholes more attention. Thanks to the on-camera row, these guys are now more well-known than they would have been.

Hopefully, you're right, though. What a banal, pedestrian, childish trend. Surely, the culture that produced Howard Stern, Justin Bieber and a constant Lindsey Lohan vigil is capable of more... (I refer, of course, to western culture, not just a particular country...)

it does give them attention and that's what they're going for. Just hoping stories of these guys getting fired and arrested does to this what it did to idiots running on the field in the past. When I was a kid that happened alot. When word got around that these guys ended up in jail it basically stopped. Personally I think one good on camera ass kicking would work best.

I'm trying to persuade my lad to do karate too...Sadly, moronic behaviour isn't reserved for female victims, and I want him to be able to protect himself should the need arise.

yup. my son just started for that reason. He's little (I'm 5 6 and my wife is 5 0) and he's a bit of a smartass (wonder where he got that from?) so i figured people knowing that he knew karate would be helpful. I remember we had one kid in my high school, new student in grade 9 named Louie. Very shy kid. He joined our school just prior to the talent show. Turns out he was a black belt and he did a karate/destruction diplay for talent night. After that show everyone was always super nice to him. Never got in a fight in 4 years of high school. lol

This has been going on for quite a while and started on January 4th, 2014, as a YouTube prank that turned out to be a hoax. Now it's blown up into worldwide idiocy where people are actually doing it to reporters. So stupid.

    [URLs removed]

I don't even like posting those URLs but I wanted to shed light on the source of all this moronic behavior.

Edit: I removed the URLs to articles about it because if you just search Google for the vulgar phrase you'll find the information in the first few links.

LOL! What's next in society... Vapid reporters armed with tasers? It's a silly trend that should probably be reserved to live hurricane reports.

Awww...Your kids are going to be cuties!

I'm 5'6, and my son's Dad is 6'4 - so there's no way our son is going to be small (he's 10 and already wearing age 14 clothes due to his height). He has a reputation for being a gentle giant, and unlike his mother, tends to steer clear of trouble - but, as I've explained to him, you can't always rely on others to be nice and civil, so it's as well to have some sort of back-up in place. It's a shame, but that's reality.

Yeah, picks response sounds like when people say that if you just ignore the bully it will go away. It doesn't always happen like that.
