    Default Case Study

Do you guys keep your guitars in the case when not being played, or leave them out on a stand or something. Any pros or cons to leaving them out of the case (outside of dust)?

Curious what most do. I have a couple I leave out either hanging on the wall or on a stand, but I keep my pricier guitars in the case when I'm not playing them.

All mine are out. Don't know why it would be bad or good. I live in So Cal, we don't have weird weather here so I don't have strange things happen to my guitars either.

All of mine are out too. I've never had any problems.

My two EVH striped series guitars are in hs cases . I just don't want them out when I'm not playing them .
My Peavey Wolf Special and AX40 guitars are on stands in my practice room .

My Wolfgang Special is always out, but I play it almost daily. My old Lotus strat copy is also out and covered in dust. There is, apparently, a limit to how long you should leave one out if you don't play it.

3 of my 6 are out, and all 3 are hanging. The other 3 are in their cases.

I actually worry about this a little bit, cause I keep feeling like I am doing long term damage to the neck, but then I remember that is how Sam Ash and GC do it...

I live in Ca as well, so I am more worried about earthquakes knocking them off the wall than temperature fluctuations.

Does anyone use humidifiers In their guitar rooms? I think Sam Ash and GC have humidifiers in their stores.

I live in NJ and used to keep the guitars out. However, my Striped Series neck shrunk so much last winter that it needed fret work! Since then, I keep all the guitars in cases and use an acoustic guitar humidifier on the Striped Series. Wild weather and unfinished or lightly finished necks don't mix well. Sigh.

It depends on the guitar for me. If it's my American standard strat, its staying in the case when I'm not playing it. My other guitars are usually out 24/7.

I leave all of mine hanging on the wall year round. I'll dust them and polish them maybe once a month or so (for the ones that I don't play much). I live near Pittsburgh and winters here can get pretty cold whereas my humidity level can drop pretty low. I'll run a humidifier in the winter and closely monitor the humidity level with one of these things:

When I lived up in the mountains in Colorado my low rent solution was to place a moist sponge in the pic compartment of the case for my acoustic. Worked like a charm. There is very little humidity there and I noticed no notes would sound around the twelfth fret. After I did that the problem was solved. I'm not offering that as a procedure for high end guitars mind you!

I count four on stands. 5 in gig bags leaning in a corner. Five just laying on the floor and six in cases. I mostly play one USA Wolf, it comes out of and returns to its cases every time.

Like Brett said, when I lived in SoCal (San Diego), I never had any trouble with them out. Living by DC now, I have to boil water constantly in the winter to keep the humidity up in the condo with them hanging and on stands. Another reason I was an f'ing idiot to take a gov job and move away....

Yes - get something that measures humidity. Want to keep it over 40 but not more than 60. Unless you live in SoCal, then you don't have to worry about stupid things like weather and winter...

The ones I am playing I just leave them out, except my acoustic in the winter. then it goes in its case with one of those oasis humidity thingees.
