Default Computer analysis mentions VH, 'proves' mid-to-late 1980s was most boring musical era

Van Halen is mentioned. Yes, this was an actual study.

They obviously didn't take modern country music into account. It's boring and awful.

It means nothing anyway (The study...not DRFC's posting it) computer study or not. A computer only outputs based on it's input, and if the study already had a bias, it would probably reflect the end result.

In the 90's it was the same shit! "70's music most lame in history".
Well, I'd agree with Disco, and a lot of the crap bubble gum pop, but it was one of the best true rock decades with those bands that rose to the top.
There's bad music in every era, but painting an entire period with the same brush...Typical.
It's funny how fickle people are, especially these so-called authorities on music. Now scientists?
Whatever. Like EVH said, and I've always agreed with: "If it sounds good, it is good".

Well it does support my long-standing statement .... Don't blame Sammy for Van Halen's music changing in 1986...

    blame the mid-to-late 80's

Yeah, because Tesla, Whitesnake, Blue Murder & Badlands are all more boring than Nirvana.

Pretty much every "exciting" guitarist from the later decades cites Eddie as an influence. Probably because he composed such boring music.

Also, if you have to ask a computer if a song is boring, you might be a contemporary music "fan."

    Such a "boring" album ...

I cant read this either.....but the only reason any of it might be true....more to the end of the 80s , is because there were so many lame hair bands out there ....bands like Firehouse.....they were all copycat bands, and they were what gave us Nirvana IMO....too many copy bands signed by record companies wearing it out to no end....then after that they did it with Seattle bands...for proof I give you 4 non Blondes...what a heap of no talent. Likewise with Boy Bands....The record companies are to blame just as they are today for the sad state of music now...They are responsible for the talentless, no musicianship landscape we have today.

Maybe I have my bands mixed up, but the singer from 4 Non Blondes can wail.

    Otherwise, I agree with you.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Between auto-tune and songwriting programs like Hooktheory, I would think today's music is the most generic ever written.

Yeah autotune is ridiculous...and why are todays bands terrified of guitar solos? Back to autotune, its out of control...I was at some friends house the other day and their kid was watching some kids show....and there was singing on there...and you could easily tell it was autotuned....what has the world come to when even kid shows are artificially enhanced. Its pathetic
