    Default "Little Guitars" by KBD3

I had never, ever learned to properly play "Little Guitars" until this past week. Up until now, I played an odd but passable arrangement I came up with in standard Eb tuning, but got to messing with my son's Mini Strat from when he started playing, and tuned it up a step and a half and started relearning "Little Guitars".

It's fun but challenging to play. It is a masterpiece -- one of Ed's best guitar parts ever. My GF mistook it for The Who while listening to me practicing it from the other room, and I can actually hear elements of that for the first time now.

    Enjoy!

Great job. Love the song. The riff certainly does have a The Who vibe about it.

When this song first came out, the finger picked portion reminded me of AC/DC.

Just the technique seemed similar to Angus on the "Shoot to thrill" breakdown, or
the intro to "For those about to rock."

I wondered, at the time, if he had heard those song's & liked the sound of the
    distorted/finger-picked thing.

"Little Guitars" remains a personal fave, to this day.
    Exceptional song all around.

Very good job , Kevin !
You're right about the composition ... It's one of Eddie's best . You really pulled off a superb rendition here .

Nice tone out of that rig too . Always impressive

Nice! Does anyone else think that Ed could have got away with putting that on the album without the rest of the band playing or vocals? It just seems catchy by itself!

Absolutely! (though i love Dave's lyrics & vocals on this one)

The piece of music that Ed & Al play, everything right up to the very first verse,
is one of my favorite VH moments, musically.

The splashy drums, that sexy single note riff, then those classic Eddie chords (similar
chords/suspensions he used on "Secrets" as well), then the cool arpegiated thing
followed by that huge shimmering chord, into another great resolution & boom!
    First verse!

Great job Kevin!! I have always wanted to learn that song correctly....

But be careful....the last time a VH album grabbed you there was a string of era appropriate replicas that you had to produce to truly satisfy your jones. That 'Secrets' double neck might keep you awake at night LOL...

But if anybody could do it, my money's on you.

I did the exact same thing...right after my daughter was born 3 months ago I bought her a red Squier mini-strat and tuned it up to finally play "Little Guitars" correctly. I had learned it with a capo before, so I really had been playing it using the same positions, but getting the mini-strat let me tune it up correctly and use the open strings as Ed did. I'd still like a proper mini-Les Paul with mini-humbuckers like the one that Ed used on the recording...but the mini-strat wil do for the $50 I paid for it on eBay! My daughter probably wouldn't be able to play it until she is like 6 years old, but what the hell

The chorus effect sounds great...what did you use?

Great job, man. Never bothered to figure that one out. The plucking part intimidates me.

And yes, the guitar part alone is a song.

Yep Allan -- gets me jonesing for a real little guitar...could be a lot of fun!

I use a BOSS Chorus Ensemble pedal. It's a solid pedal, lots of versatility -- although I do still pine for my old school Ibanez Stereo Chorus. Might have to hit eBay up for that one some day.
