Default Pedal Question Boss ME 50

Okay, it's me again with another gear question. I just bought a used Boss ME 50 multi-effects pedal. Got it for a song and don't regret it, but I need some advice.

The owner's manual recommends running the pedal directly into the amp, but that puts all of your effects out in front of your signal chain, meaning it can make things muddy. With some tweaking I got some cool tones, and some of the warmth of my tube amp still remains. I've tried it using the distortions on the pedal (pretty good, but makes the effects clippy), and I've tried it with no pedal distortion (effects work better, but it limits smoothness of compression).

Anybody have any experience with this pedal, or something similar? Any advice for me? Better in the effects loop?

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have a Bugera 6262-212. Looking for good, solid rock tone with some compression and delay. Straightforward but not too, too basic. Alone, the amp is very good for AC/DC. I wanted the pedal because it's a cheap way to get compression and other effects together. I mainly only use compression, distortion, phaser (sometimes). I can get pretty good echo combining the pedal's delay with the amp reverb on 5.

I have it working pretty good now going through the front. Takes away some of the amps balls, but it still sounds pretty good. I tried the effects loop and the results weren't good. So far, going straight into the amp seems to be the answer. But right now I'm not using the amp's lead channel at all. Not that it really matters, I guess.
