Ed's comment about press making his relationship with Roth more sour than it was.

    Quote from Ed

"The relationship has always been the same, really. Just because he quit back in 1985 to pursue a solo career, the press I think made a bigger to-do out of our relationship being sour than we did, you know what I mean?"

I think Ed needs to go back and review video of himself after Dave left .....
Is this a case of Ed having selective memory or is he just trying to smooth things over? Because no one had more negative things to say about Dave than Ed.
I'm not saying that Ed should still hate Dave to this day because of what happened back then, but this just seems more of the trouble Ed seems to have with the facts and truth of what really happened.
Anyone besides me think Ed needs to start owning up for his part of history as we know it?

I compare Ed post Dave the first time as being like a guy who just got dumped by the hottest and best fuck of his life. He was bitter as he should have been if that break up story is true.
But let's not live in the pasture, look forward to whatever they can give us in the future. They are all 30 years older now, maybe wiser, maybe not. But definitely older and both need each other.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

that could be....but the point is....Ed trying to blame it on the press is pretty much BS.

You are right. All of them were bitter including Sammy which in my mind made no sense for Sammy to be. The others yes.

I doubt Eddie looked at it that way.

In Ed's mind, Ed was the "hottest chick" getting dumped.

I think he was annoyed that Dave bailed right after their most successful
    album.
I think Ed thought Dave was full of himself, due to the constant rotation of
    solo/cover tunes via MTV.
Dave, in my mind, made a huge mistake leaving when he did.
That goofy e.p. would only carry him for so long.

Ed would retain success, but unfortunately for the old school fans, we had
to endure Sammy Hagar for the following decade.

It was a lose/lose for Van Halen & it's fans, imo.

Its funny to me....I pose a question about Ed's honesty about Dave comments back in the day and Ed's honesty in general and some still use it as an opportunity to bash Sam....this isnt about Sam or Dave, its about Edward

From all we have ever read / heard, every breakup (except Cherone) was bitter and Ed had lots of things to say at the time (He quit, LSD, etc). Even Andy Johns commented on the "paranoia" of the VH Camp overall, so if you throw in the drinking and drugging done at the time, who knows what he really remembers, or even cares to remember, you know?

It does seem strange that DLR is silent so much, especially considering his nature and the way he loves to talk. I truly believe the VH Camp muzzled him and then somehow works through this with him prior to anything happening.

As to the question, yes I believe Ed needs to own up to this stuff, but not to us or anyone outside of the people he directly affected. He owes the public zero on that score

In all fairness it was the press that asked the questions!

We've all seen the mud slinging on Ed's part but I would bet Eddie doesn't remember half of what was said 30 years ago to a reporter. We do because we've watched it 100 times in the past 30 years or are reminded of it by people who have. Seriously though, who gives a fuck. They obviously get along now and it seems to be water under the bridge. They seem to be acting like adults about it so that's cool for me.

Ed's having some selective amnesia there.

Him, Al and Sam were always shitting on Roth.

That's not to say that Ed actually hated Roth. Ed probably hated the fact that Dave was so hard to work with and couldn't stand being around him near the end.

Considering they were pretty heavy alcohol and pharmaceutical enthusiasts, maybe that is the way Ed remembers it.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
