Default New Marshall Style EVH Gear Amp in the Works

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...#ixzz3WDER5tVg

Q: Speaking of equipment, what new EVH gear are you working on?

A: People are always screaming and yelling for that classic vintage guitar sound. The 5150 III amps are very high-gain. The main thing that we’re working on is an amp that is modeled after the old vintage Marshall that I used on the first six records. I wanted more sustain out of them.

The difference between the 5150 III amp, and this new amp we are working on is the tubes. They use EL34 tubes, which are more like my original vintage Marshall. Still trying to figure what to call it. Might call it the 5150 III-IV because they use the EL34 tubes. I told Howard Kaplan, the amp guy at Fender/EVH, what I wanted, and just last week they all came out and I gave it a test run. It blew my mind. It has the old vintage tone but with more sustain

    Very interesting!

Love my 5150s. But I want 1984 tone. LWAN tone. 1984 tone with 5150 type sustain. This might be it. This is the most exciting guitar news I've heard in years! Can't wait until this thing comes out!

If they did a small low-wattage version of this, I'd be tempted.

I'd imagine it will have the power scaling that that latest EVH combos have had, acting as a faux "variac."

The big question for me is if this is a multi channel amp. I'd love a more vintage flavored 5150iii, but it wouldn't be practical for me in a live environment without multiple channels.

That is great news , in addition to all the other great news in that interview !

Eddie just put out the super-duper-ultra-souped up Stealth III with more gain and "balls" , and I didn't understand why . Can't imagine needing any more drive than a 5150 'regular' amp . LOL

This new amp sounds cool . Love the older tones EVH got from the Marshall . I'm officially putting my name on the waiting list for one of these

I hope they produce a low watt version, 30 variable down to 1 would be awesome.

Please no low wattage crap. Low watt amps don't push air like a 100 watter. This amp needs to be four EL34 tubes to have the low end. Power scaling would be nice to appeal to the lower wattage guys. Or down the road maybe a low watt version. But out of the gate there's only one way to release this amp. I'm sure it'll be around $2500. It has the potential to undercut and almost eliminate the brown sound Marshall based amps out there. If it sounds right. Which I'm sure it will.

I doubt I'll ever buy another amp that isn't 100 watts. Most these days have at least a half power switch anyway. And before everbody starts with bedroom volume and small club/bar gigs. I played a Peavey 5150 head a 4x12 cab in all these environments and it was perfect at the time. Yes I was too loud for monitors. But I heard myself just fine.

Lunchbox amps are a fad and I can't wait for it to be over. I have a Marshall Class 5. It's great. But lacks bottom end thump. Only big iron for me!

I've always said that Eddie should've done a signature Marshall head YEARS AGO ! Like around 1984/85/86 - ish . Those things would still be selling like hotcakes ....

Kerry King has a signature Marshall head . Seriously ?

Anyways , I'm pretty sure that Ed's new creation will be a hundred watt offering .
They'll most likely do different versions to appease the market , but the 1st line will be a big box . And expensive ...

Hopefully every knob won't have to be on 10 to get that classic sound.

I would be interested in this. Howard told me he was working on it a while back, but didn't think EL34s were gonna work. Looks like he's found a way to make them sound good to the boss. If this new one doesn't end up with three channels, perhaps it won't be as huge and boxy as the 5150 III 100w. Man, I couldn't not stand lugging mine around. It was literally almost twice the size of my SLO and I finally downsized to a 50w. The 50w will easily drive two 4x12s and make my bandmates beg for mercy. But I sure would like to try out a more vintage-sounding version.

Gonna be tough to sell them at $2500 when you can buy Marshall 1987x and 1959SLP all day long for over $1k less.

Amp sounds exciting. My personal ideal sound is close to his 90-95 sound. So probably not for me.

New album after this tour, release in late 2016 early 2017 maybe?

The only way a "low wattage" mode works well for bedroom/apartment use is to go down to around .1W or so... Having an amp that only goes down to 1W is useless...
