Default What's up with the gum? & Twitter reviews

First, why in the hell is Dave chewing gum on live TV? Maybe it's just me, but it was a huge distraction.

Secondly, the immediate Twitter reviews of the Kimmel performance are a mixed bag. I only paid attention to the ones from self-proclaimed Van Halen fans. Here they are, paraphrased:
    - Eddie Van Halen is still amazing
    - the band sounded great
    - why is Dave chewing gum?
    - David Lee Roth is an embarrassment
    - DLR is creeping me out
    - Thanks, Dave. You just saved me a bunch of money that I was going to spend on concert tickets.
    - Proof that God loves us in the form of EVH's hands

Twitter is probably a decent gauge as to how the "casual fan" viewed that performance. And so far, the response is underwhelming.

I thought the music sounded great, and that Dave actually sounded better than 2012. But if that was the first time I'd seen DLR in years (which was likely the case for many viewers), I'd be a little shocked, too. I hope these appearances don't backfire on them in the form of lost ticket sales.

Dave needs to reel it in some. Just fucking "TRY" to sing and quit been a damn stage clown. As much as I love the guy, Dave is gonna hurt the band more than help. And, it's apparent by the twitter comments.

I get the sneaking suspicion that Ed had a couple of, "WTF moments" this evening.

But, they did sound pretty damn good. So happy to see Ed being the bad ass that he is. The guy IS the guitar player for the generations. However, his business/band handling reminds me of a airplane with snapped off wings....

That "Dr. Smith" thing was hilarious!

The camera's were rollin'....of course he was gonna ham it up more than usual. I didn't think he hurt the legacy.

Most of us were excited but nervous about Dave.
Turned out we were right to be.

So,excited when sound check boots hit youtube. Band sounded awesome!

Then Diamond came out jack up after several gaggers, fuck up his nose (mike stand twirl gone bad?) and you judge the rest. As expected.

We all know why he's chewing gum btw... Keep that jaw movin..

Great to see Ed on fire. Fans appeared crazy stoked..

you see the size of that crowd....and you think, these guys could be relevant again. if they cut an album of new music...but then you hear Dave...and see Dave...and realize he holds them back severely....I like how others have termed him...clownish...and tonight...he looked like he was flying high on something...I'm sure thats not going to sit well with the rest of the band...

How is David Lee Roth supposed to act?!

He's Diamond Dave. He was always extremely flamboyant. This is just a less athletic version of the persona he's always had.

I dug the clips of RWTD and Panama. RWTD was better vocally, but both were great rock and roll performances.

I disagree here. He used to own the stage with swagger and charisma and more than a little charm. He somehow managed to simultaneously ooze sex appeal for the girls, and macho rock star hero coolness for the guys. Now, it's like a totally different person. I watch him and I can't even see a glimmer of his old self. He's become a caricature of himself, but even worse than that. The weird gum-smacking, body shaking and spin-a-roo dance moves, are just bizarre to me. He looks out of sync and out of character. I guess I could get past it if his vocals were excellent, or forgive the vocals if the stage presence weren't so damned weird. But for me, he's missing the mark on both counts. And I hate it because I really love DLR with VH. It especially stinks because in my opinion, the band is tearing it up.

He's been chewing gum for a while now. Gum stimulates the salivary glands to produce saliva for a 60 year old singing for two straight hours. He also lost his hair and has wrinkles. They are distractions I can live with. So is Twitter.

Lol to anyone that thinks they will find positive reviews on Twitter. That platform was made for people with little value to bitch about things. If Jesus Christ came back on Kimmel tonight on a cloud backed by cherubs, people would be saying "Eh, he's lost a step in the last two millennia. That cloud bit was cool in 35 AD, but if he really wants some new fans he's got to up his game. Embarrassing."
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
