If VH makes no more music, they cannot be elected to the Hall Of Fame. A band must make music for 25 years to be considered. At least I believe this is true.

Then again with all the lead singer changes, are they really worthy?

Is the stability there? Does it matter? From 1/95 thru now, 5/01, they have released 2 albums. BOV1 doesn't count, that was a kill time, make money, be lazy, release.

Stones, Zep, Who, Beatles. All great bands 1 lead singer. I am counting McCartney and Lennon as one person.

You have to wait 25 years after your first recording to be eligable.

Guys like Eddie Cochran and Jimi Hendrix are in the Hall of Fame despite only recording for a short time.

Thanks! Wasn't quite sure about the criteria.

When VH reaches eligibility, the HOF people should make VH wait three years before they make a decision.

A little off-topic, but you can really look back to June of '91 and say they have only released 3 records in 10 years, as RHRN and BOV1 don't count. Hell, Boston put out three records in 10 years ('76-'86).

As great as a band that Van Halen is, at this time, they are not a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. It took some bands a few years before they got elected. I believe Aerosmith didn't get in on the first try. AC/DC is still waiting.

I think that getting back with Dave and putting out a great album would get them in. Right now, they have no momentum to help their cause. I believe they are Hall of Fame material. Whether the HOF voters do, that is another story.

Guys, they are definitely in! 80 million albums, 5 #1 albums, every music award including the Grammy and MTV Video of the Year. They are third all time in most consecutive multi-platinum albums and first all time with 11 AOR #1 hits. They headlined the US Festival, which was the largest attended concert in the Guiness Book of World Records. Innovation and influence to the guitar, as well as an entire generation of knockoffs, have them already in the door.

van halen will be elected in 2003 - 25 years after the release of VAN HALEN.

no other band that has debuted in the past 25 years has been more influential, artisitic, successful than van halen.

if they never release another note of music, van halen will go down as one of the best.

I agree with JMJ, count on nothing. I think I talked about this months ago. As we all agree they are HOF material. They may have rubbed some people the wrong way, and with the lead singer changes, they may not get in first ballor in 2003. I don't think they are a shoe in. I don't know who does the voting, I'm sure writers, inductess, but they always say, hey what have you done lately? And as far as this band goes, they have done virtually nothing for the last 5 years. III can be counted as virtually nothing in some peoples eyes. To help their cause, they need to make big by the end of the year and especially in 2002. Aerosmith, though I no big fan as kept themselves visable and I'm sure that helped their cause this year, and they were no first ballot HOF. And if Aerosmith as some call the greatest American rock and roll band can't make it first ballot, why are we to assume that VH is going to make it. So don't make your reservations for Cleveland yet.
