THIS ISN'T MEANT TO RAG ON HIM, IT'S JUST AN OBSERVATION:

Ed's speaking voice has changed dramatically over the last 10 years or so, I know he was sick and I know he had part of his tongue removed so I'm sure that adds to it but I'm always taken back when I hear him speak recently.

    Just an observation.

Boy that set up sure looks like it's ready for a tour! Also Alex's drums are set up for recording.... Unless they were used on the Wolfgang solo album. They are all mic'd up and ready to go!

His speaking voice has gotten much deeper over the years. Everybody's does, but heavy smoking will increase it a lot.

I don't care what anybody says, Ed's tone sounds awesome there.

it just seems very dramatic to me, not ragging him. Its' just I expect to hear one thing and when he starts talking he just sounds waaaay different.

    it is what it is.

I hadn't seen this, so muchas gracias! It seems that Ed is starting to open up more about what makes him tick, which is really cool.

Yeah it's really noticeable in this video. It sounds like he's really laboring to talk or something, like he has to put a lot of effort into making it audible and clear. Maybe he was getting over a cold or something, because it didn't seem that way in his recent Smithsonian appearance--at least not to that degree.

It was cool to hear and see him play up close, though. If I ever got to sit and watch Eddie play in a one-on-one session, that's about how close my face would be to the guitar.

I don't really like his tone these days, but some tone is better than no tone! It's like the middle is completely lost and there's no reverb or something, because it sounds crunchy, yet thin.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

That’s exactly it. There’s no reverb, and I don’t necessarily blame him for that. I don’t like a lot of reverb either. But there needs to be some sort of sonic cushion, either a touch of verb or a very light delay. He’s also set his mids very low since the early 90s, but it worked with the thick processed Eventide sound. with more mids, a touch of verb, and a little less gain and we’d all be singing praises about Ed’s tone. At the end of the day we can all buy that same gear and call up those same settings, but Ed’s playing and attack are still a huge part of the tone.

Very cool to see him play that gear and narrate the piece. I'm not a musician, but even I think that stuff looks way fucking cool.

Ed's in a good place these days... it would seem.

What? no comments about his wardrobe yet. Sheesh!

Hope this shuts the idiots up on FB, who always rag on Ed for not demoing his own gear. I always thought that he did that on purpose, to try and grow the brand beyond the niche market. It's working, if that's what the plan was. Great vid. Any chance to see inside of 5150, is GREAT. In full HD, to boot.
