    Default It's a 2015 Showdown!

Sammy spoke about releasing a live album with the "Circle" long before the Van Halen PR machine kicked into high gear (sarcasm) to announce theirs.

With that said, once Sammy learned of the live release, I'm quite certain he did what he could to rush the release.

The publicity of both "outfits" putting out a live album will be good for both bands. I can see the Rolling Stones of the world doing album reviews together of both releases.

Sammy will be praised for his pipes at his age. Dave will be slammed. Eddie will be declared the guitar god that he is, and if the reviewer is paying attention (he or she probably isn't), they will find a way to compare bass playing and background vocals of Mike and Wolf. In the end, the reviewer will wonder what it will take to get all 7-ish members on stage.

But seriously, it is kind of cool, no matter how you feel about the live releases that there is some competition in the air and it is 2015. Maybe this will motivate them to release new music. That would be neato cachito.

The new VH cd seems to be getting picked apart , mostly because of the vocals .
I'm hoping that it does please most of us , because I want 'my band' to succeed and continue ...

Everyone knows I'm a fan of Sam in VH , but there's no way in Hell I'm picking up his new live cd . Couldn't care less .

I might buy that Circle live, just to hear Sam on the Zep tunes.

DD, I agree. Even on crappy youtube videos, Sam sounds pretty good on the Zep tunes, and to be frank, Vic doesn't sound too bad either...and Jason has them down...he's a monster. So, I'm intrigued.

Another thing is going to be to compare production.

Wonder if they will have tour dates that will have them crossing paths. I know the venues will be different sizes.

I've got a few live Sammy things...so, I'll pass on this. Jason on the drums intrigues me - but I'd rather hear new Chickenfoot.

As for comparing the two...sure, whatever, that'll always happen. The comparisons won't drive me to purchase either. I'll pick up the new live VH CD simply b/c I don't have a VH w/ Dave live CD. However, from what I've heard thus far off it - it's disappointing for all the reasons we've discussed at length already.

I doubt Sam released this b/c he wanted comparisons OR because he needs the sales. Likely it was because it was ready. If he wanted it out for comparisons, he'd release within 2 weeks of VH's...not 6+ weeks.

I can take Dave or Sammy changing lyrics around, but I cannot stand hearing Vic butcher Eddie's playing. Vic is a good player, but even BOBW sounds horrible.

Looking forward to both releases as I am to watching The View

I mean on one hand you have a kick ass band fronted by a cat being castrated with non original member who only got the job by nepotism. Decent player and singer but not the same.

The other band has a great singer and bass player but their drummer only is famous because of nepotism as well. Plus their cover band guitarist has shown for over 15 years that he is incapable of picking up the nuances of Eddie Van Halen. He takes the Slash approach to covering a VH song.

Sammy will sound much better but I believe the Dave's backing band even with Wolfgang will sound better than The Circle. What we have here is a circle jerk with no happy ending.

    Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

If you think I am ripping on The Circle, go watch that Oslo video. Then listen to The Circle. Its light years away from that.

Exactly! This thread could go on for 140 more pages, and what you said would still be the ultimate conclusions. VH's album is superior musically, but the vocals suck. The Circle's album has superior vocals, but is lacking musically.

Jason Bonham is a fantastic drum player - nepotism aside. Sure, he got instant recognition b/c of his name - but he's more than earned his stripes b/c of his talent. History will show in years to come Wolf doing the same. I'll give that guy props....he inherited a shit sandwich for introductions into the band, went on tour when he was ridiculously young, got on stage in front of sold out arena's, still seems grounded and is turning out to be a pretty awesome bass player. I'm also growing to like his improve playing on bass (he follows his old man in that regard). I still prefer Mike overall - but lets stop the shitting on Wolf thing before it gets out of hand again.
