    Default recommended HARD ROCK

okay guys, curious about what other hard rock you guys listen to beyond VH (and Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc).

i'm not big into screaming death metal type stuff... more mid-level heavy rock, like CLUTCH, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.... LOVED Them Crooked Vultures. I really liked The Sword album called Apocryphon...

Soundgarden's recent/comeback album from a couple years ago was surprisingly great. I think Dave Grohl is really cool, but Foo Fighters are just too bland for me (tho I like the new album).

and recently cant get enough of ROYAL BLOOD. that album rocks.

if anyone can recommend more stuff like that...

    royal blood is cool.

Farmikos (has been posted about recently). Good stuff. A little Soundgarden/AIC vibe with great guitar.

Leaving out my metal bands and pre 80s stuff.. Black Crowes, White Stripes, Black Keys, and more recently Rival Sons are a few.

this one might be a stretch for some (no vox).

Heavy-ish (instrumental) band. I'm rarely into that kind of thing. But I like most of the riffs and feels these guys get. They occasionally have a guest vocalist, but only a couple songs like that.

    Pelican (from Chicago).

ps. I used to be big into Clutch...and Foo Fighters are way too bland for me now-a-days as well ;-)

Royal Blood is awesome and it's great to see them have so much success with their first album.

My suggestions are pretty much bands that are either flat out hard rock or have hard rock elements to them.

The Strokes have some good hard rock songs like "Juicebox" and "Reptilia". Not many, but a few. Same with The White Stripes and songs of theirs like "Little Cream Soda". When not every song is hard rock, the heavier songs sound better in a way because they're so different from the rest of the catalog.

Other than that, I'd say Halestorm, Volbeat, Alter Bridge, a bit of Sleeping with Sirens, Paramore, some of Brand New, Biffy Clyro, My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil, and some of Julian Casablancas & The Voidz.

They're all different in their style and vocal styles, but they all have big guitars and drums.

The Winery Dogs - best album i've heard for many years. Kotzen, Sheehan, Portnoy, say no more
Freak Kitchen - Interesting rock/metal, great humour and social commentary in the lyrics. Absolutely outstanding guitar player
Red Zone Rider - terrible name, but really cool 70s kinda Deep Purple vibe rock with Vinnie Moore on guitar
Maragold - Greg Howe's latest thing. Classy pop/rock, female vox

Oh, I'd also like to add Queens of the Stone Age.
