    Default San Andreas 5/29/15

I don't normally go to see The Rock in movies, but I think I could go and see this one...just for the "experience" of it.

I really don't like Earthquakes and talk of Earthquakes let alone fucking movies about Earthquakes. You people that have never experienced one have no idea how terrifying they really are.

I live pretty close to the San Andreas fault. I'm about 25 miles as the crow flies, and it runs along the main travel pipeline from my area to the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. In fact, in college, our first geology lab was a hike to the actual fault line. You can stand essentially with one foot on one plate and one on the other. We have been hearing about the "big one" for a long time, but earthquakes don't really scare me too terribly much.

The last "big" one I can remember was the Landers/Big Bear quake. Two big quakes within hours of each other. The Landers quake hit about 5am, and it woke me up. I remember shaking for about a minute, so I apparently slept through the first minute or two. My parents house is on a bed of granite, so if an earthquake hit at home, there was no difference between "rolling" quakes and "shaking" quakes--all are violent shaking. I remember the shaking being truly violent. Nothing really fell over or broke, but it was pretty crazy. It was a 7.3, and Landers is about 45 miles away.

Three house later, a 6.5 hit Big Bear Lake, about 25 miles away. This one was worse, despite being smaller, because it was closer. I was 13 and still a pretty quiet, shy kid. I had just finished 7th grade, and I was terrified. I cried a lot after that second quake.

Anyway, it's been a while since geology, so while this movie looks crazy as far as the effects go, it seems to be taking some liberty with science. The San Andreas is a transform fault, which means that it's two plates moving alongside each other in opposite directions. So there's no chance of the earth cracking open, and there's no chance of a tsunami (those typically occur along subduction zones of convergent faults).

That said, if this movie delivers what it is selling, I may go see it.

    Oooh...Carla Gugino.

Yum. Met her once. Super nice lady to boot.

Saw Alexandra D'addario in there as well. Might go see it just for the eye candy!

Edit: removed the pic, it was huge!
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

I don't think The Rock has been in a truly good movie yet.

He surely doesn't have any Terminators, Predators, Rocky's or Rambo's under his belt.
Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge:

"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built and it is terrific."

I like The Rock. His movies aint the greatest but some have been okay. That said, he's not an actor I pay to go see. I can wait for the rental, or cable.

Gotta agree with Dick Punch. I've been thru a couple minor quakes on the east coast and they scared the crap of of me. I can't imagine a serious one.

I love the original two Walking Tall movies (for what they are) and so I did not bother with the remake. I saw bits and pieces, but it looked... eh....

The Rundown is solid (but no action movie classic or anything) and Faster and Snitch are watchable... But he has so many forgettable movies like The Scorpion King, Empire State, G.I. Joe, The Tooth Fairly and Get Smart.
